Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Joanne Sherwood

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.

I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Westvale House Care Home

,

Creative Design

Here at Westvale House we enjoy Craft sessions, this week we have tried our hand at the Nexus Playboard.

This was a new craft to us and for a lot of our residents but it certainly proved to be very popular and a lot of fun.

This kind of crafting has many benefits such as keeping our fine motor skills on point, testing our stamina and exercising our creative design side and all while keeping the mind and body calm and relaxed

Baking Club

Here at Westvale House we look forward to enjoying the very poplular weekly Baking Club.

We enjoyed a firm favourite this week, Rice Crispy Cakes!

Making old classics always promotes great conversations of the past and a good opportunity for reminiscing.

Musical mystery tour

Our homes had a brilliant time with curator Sarah Deters as she took us on a virtual ‘Music Through the Ages’ tour of St Cecilia’s Hall: Concert Room and Music Museum.

Our residents were thrilled to discover weird and wonderful musical instruments, hear their unusual sounds, and find out how instruments have changed over the last 500 years.

The virtual live event explored the world-renown collection of musical instruments on display at St Cecilia’s Hall, Scotland’s oldest concert hall.

Blue Planet Aquarium

We enjoyed lunch before taking a tour around the bottom of the ocean coming face to face with sharks, stingrays and other creatures of the deep.

,

Art club

We took  advantage of the beautiful weather this week and enjoyed art club in the garden.

Home hosts charity Summer Fete!

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together on August 13 at Westvale House in Warrington to enjoy a Summer Fete held in the home’s grounds in aid of Breast Cancer Now, a cause very close to the home’s heart.

Westvale House hosted a variety of activities throughout the day to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now, including serving an absolutely delicious afternoon tea prepared by Dave our kitchen assistant ,a tombola, a raffle, and a variety of stalls from different local businesses which included lunch with Lucy Dog Treats.  There was live entertainment by Musical Delights, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who came to the event.

For the first time since 2019, the home was able to hold its annual summer fete and the staff and residents were delighted to see different generations having fun together again.
