Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Specialist Dementia Care

It is Dementia Action Week with this year's campaign focussed on the theme of diagnosis, encouraging everyone to "act on dementia"

Barchester have a team of dementia specialists working with our homes that offer a Memory Lane Community. They support homes in offering person centred care, new initiatives and evidence based practice. Next month on 17th June White Lodge are launching our monthly dementia cafe.

The Memory Lane specialist dementia community in White Lodge is cleverly designed to assist residents with the use of colour and items on display. The White Lodge team play such an important role enriching the lives of residents on Memory Lane. The activities team offer residents so much variety and choice; in just the past few days we have enjoyed completing a puzzle, a game of quoits, enjoyed our resident pianist and relaxed with mindful colouring. As you enter Memory Lane you will hear familiar music and see displays and rummage boxes all with a theme.

Florence Nightingale on her Pop Up Pedestal

Today White Lodge residents met Florence Nightingale in the historic Malmesbury Abbey. No one quite knew what to expect when we were kindly invited by Celebrating Age Wiltshire to watch Florence Nightingale on her pop up pedestal - it really was such an interesting and enjoyable afternoon. It was also lovely for residents to meet the Mayor of Malmesbury, Kim Power. Thank you to Malmesbury Town Council and Celebrating Age Wiltshire for their kind hospitality.

Malmesbury Abbey dates back to the 12th Century with Malmesbury thought to be the first capital of England and home to the first King of England. Florence Nightingale was the founder of modern nursing and social reformer during the 19th century.
