Activities at Winchester House Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local priory and garden centres, as well as visits from musicians, a wide range of entertainers. We are lucky enough to have a enthusiastic team of volunteers who regularly visit the home throughout the week, and our yearly pantomime is a real crowd-pleaser and is well-attended by residents, relatives and members of staff. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Winchester House is fun and active.

Volunteer Recognition Day at Winchester

Volunteer Recognition Day at Winchester

On Wednesday 20th April, Winchester House held Volunteer Recognition Day. It was our chance to say thank you to all the volunteers that generously give their time in many different ways, from assisting with activities and providing spiritual support to offering library services and helping with gardening projects. All this enhances and benefits the lives of people living at the home.

Everyone enjoyed an afternoon cream tea with scrumptious scones and cakes provided by the Head Chef, Fran.

The activities team praised all the volunteers and thanked them for all they do. A lovely afternoon was had by all!

The Travellers Dutch Choir Visits

The Travellers Dutch Choir Visits

The Travellers Dutch Choir has visited Barchester’s Winchester House, in Wouldham to perform for residents and their families.

The choir travelled from Rotterdam in Holland on 2nd April to provide a morning of entertainment. The choir’s breathtaking and uncompromising sound captivated the audience with its dynamic performance. The choir, consisting of 41 singers, sang in both English and Dutch and encouraged everyone to join in with some of the songs. Later, the choir tucked into lunch laid on by the catering team and took time to chat with everyone.

The organiser of the event thanked the home for their hospitality saying: "The reception we received and the enthusiasm of the staff was great. We had such a warm welcome."

Later in the afternoon, the Hackett-Kyne School of Irish Dancing captivated us with an afternoon of amazing dancing which wowed the audience.
