Activities at Windmill Manor Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Windmill Manor Care Home
100th Birthday Celebrations
Celebrations have been in full swing at Windmill Manor as a resident reaches her centenary in style.
Phyllis Macaree was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday. A party was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by our home's Head Chef.
Phyllis was born on 24th August 1918 in Northiam, Devon. She met her future husband, Howard, when he was on leave from the army in 1940. They had one daughter, Wendy, who first met her father aged three and a half due to his service duty during the war. Phyllis was a house wife, but offered her services voluntarily in a children’s eye clinic and in hospitals. Being a member of the Women’s Institute, Mother’s Union and Bible Group, Phyllis led an active lifestyle before coming to Windmill Manor, where she is enjoying a new chapter of her life.
Among those relatives attending Phyllis’ birthday was Wendy and Peter, her daughter and son-in-law, and Matthew, her grandson. It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the past hundred years, and it was wonderful to be with Phyllis on this very special day.
Memorial Afternoon
On Thursday 16th August, a memorial afternoon was organised for friends and families to come together and celebrate the lives of loved ones. During the ceremony, we released balloons in their memory and enjoyed a delicious high tea. Mr, Moysen and his family attended to celebrate the life of his wife, Marjorie. The afternoon was enjoyed and appreciated by all who attended.
Open Day
Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Windmill Manor to enjoy an open day that was held at the home on Saturday 9th June.
Windmill Manor hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including, chick petting and live singing, which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event.
Staff at Windmill Manor made everyone feel welcome and were delighted to see different generations having fun together. Visitors enjoyed plenty of refreshments, such as ice cream cones and freshly baked cakes prepared by the catering team, who were hard at work making sure that a great time was had by all – it really was a team effort!
Royal Wedding Celebrations
We hosted a garden party in the lead up to the royal wedding celebrations and watched the ceremony live on TV, which was followed by a royal tea. Lots of people put on their best hats and the day was enjoyed by all.
Senior Health & Fitness Day
Residents participated in a variety of fitness and dance classes throughout the afternoon that accommodated for a wide range of physical abilities, including Pilates, Zumba, chair exercises and a street dance. We invited trained instructors and teachers to lead the classes that we hosted.
Emergency Services Visit
We opened our doors to welcome in emergency services as a way of saying thank you to the paramedics, nurses, police officers and other workers who don’t always have time to go home or back to their workplace during their breaks. The team and residents of Windmill Manor provided free food and drinks to everyone who joined us.
