Activities at Woodside House Care Home

Activities at Woodside House

Our activities team deliver a wide variety of mentally and physically stimulating activities and events for those we support, including coffee afternoons, which we hold every month for the local community, regular outings in our minibus, and visits from entertainers and musicians. Monthly resident meetings help us to ensure that those living here are getting the most out of our activities programme, and that our social events reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible. From growing our own vegetables to making giant paper-mâché animals, there is always something fun going on at Woodside House.

Sam Lake

Activities Coordinator

My name is Sam and I lead our Activities Team at Woodside House.

I have been at Woodside House since 2004 and I love it here. I am responsible for ensuring that the residents are able to participate in sociable, fun and rewarding activities. My team and I are very passionate about our work and love putting smiles on the residents' faces.

We involve the residents in the planning of our activity calendars and encourage residents to continue with the hobbies that they have enjoyed throughout their lives. We will support every resident to try new things and we love learning from our residents every day.

December at Woodside House

December at Woodside House

We had a very busy festive month here at Woodside House.

The Lord Mayor stopped by to officially open Santa's grotto and meet the visiting reindeer. We also invited the local community, and residents enjoyed meeting Santa and receiving a gift.

There was a fantastic 'White Christmas' panto from Daisy Chain Productions, which was a big highlight of the month and involved a lot of audience participation.

The fabulous Lula May performed a fantastic set of 50's Christmas songs.

There was an abundance of fun activities going on, including baking and decorating cakes for Barchester's Christmas Cake Competition.

Our atrium was transformed into a giant advent calendar, so we enjoyed finding the gift of the day to share, which included all things yummy and lots of activity equipment & games.

We enjoyed a visit from several of the local churches for services and carol singing.

Finally, Santa and his elves came to visit on Christmas morning amd delivered gifts for everyone.

We were recently visited by the Lord Mayor of Norwich to launch our Christmas celebrations and officially open Santa's Grotto. Santa himself visited and brought along some reindeer for everyone to see. We also held our annual Christmas Market where we raised £170 for the residents' fund.

Lord Mayor Officially Launches Christmas at Woodside House

The countdown to Christmas has truly begun at Woodside House in Thorpe St Andrew now that the Lord Mayor has opened their Christmas Grotto to a cheerful applause from staff and residents at the home.

The Lord Mayor of Norwich opened the Grotto on Tuesday 7th December at 3.00pm to celebrate the start of the festive season. She then joined residents, staff and visitors in sampling lots of lovely homemade wares, enjoyed a coffee and spent time feeding our visiting Reindeers.

The Lord Mayor toured around the home meeting lots of residents and talking to the staff about their different roles within the home.

What have we been up to?

What have we been up to?

We've been having lots of fun out Woodside House recently. We took a trip out to Wroxham and enjoyed drinks by the rivers, and were named divisial winners at the Barchester Care awards in the Volunteer of the Year and Resident Garden of the Year categories. We also participated in a charity car wash, decorated the home in preparation for Halloween, and made a carrot cake with our own, home grown vegetables.
