What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"I came here for six days respite after an operation. My husband has Alzheimer’s and dementia so he is in another home for two weeks. I go home today. I have been into lots of care homes in past years as part of my work, and my husband going in while I get some respite. This care home has opened my eyes to how good a place can be as the staff, care, feeling of happiness spread around. Activities, food are all absolutely the best. I am 77 years old and still very active and mobile and hope to be for years yet. Definitely happy to know a place so good as Woodside House is available to people who when older need care. I have found the residents here have a good life and look after the more vulnerable because they themselves feel secure. Such a lovely experience to have spent this time here and know all the horror stories you hear about care homes certainly is not true of this place. I can honestly say the care staff in every role I have had dealings with here have been the best."

"My mum was at Barchester Woodside House Care Home for three years until she died. The care shown for her and our whole family was exemplary, very caring and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend this care home for anyone with additional needs. Thanks to all staff, you're brilliant."

"Before coming to Barchester Woodside House Care Home, I always thought care homes were not a nice place to be however I couldn't have been more wrong. The care provided to my gran was more than I could have ever hoped for. The entire staff were warm and professional from the first viewing until the end. The home was always clean and organised."

"My mother suffered a stroke back in May 2023 and while in hospital was diagnosed with advanced dementia. Since my mother was transferred to Woodside my family and I would say that my mother’s quality of life has shown improvement. When I visit I am able to see my mother’s charts and from these, I can witness firsthand the increase in my mother’s food and fluid intake. This is because shortly after being transferred, Woodside identified and agreed with a local service a need to purée my mother's food and to add thickener to her fluids to allow for this. I am also impressed with the professionalism of ALL of the staff. All of the main nurses know my wife and I by name and if they need to make us aware of anything will actively seek us out while we are visiting. I cannot recommend Woodside any higher in all aspects of my mother's care and to go further I would thank Woodside for giving my family and me a little longer with my mother due to the improvement we have seen in the quality of her life."

"Having been moved here from hospital until the paperwork for my new care home is completed, I have been very surprised having not, in my 85 years, had to call on such services. Many thanks for making this transfer as good as it can be. I have found the staff very friendly."

"My husband has been residing at Barchester Woodside House Care Home just over five weeks and in those five weeks, the kindness, compassion and care given to my husband and us, as a family, have been overwhelming. The staff go above and beyond. The nurses are full of compassion, empathy and dedication. They give such love from the heart. The communication is exemplary. The gentle kindness and care they give my husband is amazing, so much so, he has settled in very quickly. A lovely, homely, inviting place to live. The only thing that lets the home down is the ground gardens. It needs to be colourful and more inviting to sit in."

"My sister was sent from hospital to Woodside House Care Home and I was very impressed with this care home. The staff are very good with the residents and, as far as I can see, make them feel at home and comfortable. I've seen a few care homes in Leicester and Market Harborough, but not a patch on this one."

"Generally, I am happy with the care but feel the unit is often understaffed. If I have an issue I feel able to discuss it with the staff and I do feel that in each room there should be a 'care sheet' where the carer is prompted to complete what should be cared for in the shape of wash, cream applied, feet/hands/nails checked, hair brushed and teeth cleaned. I don't always feel these daily things are being done."

"During the past month my mother has really settled into the home and it’s a relief to see her so content and comfortable. All of the staff we interact with are approachable, efficient and very caring. Communication could be a problem with situations like ours but the team has gone out of the way to keep us informed of what is happening. Nursing care is very good and any possible problems are observed and well attended to (for example my mum’s sore lip which needed treatment). One thing we would appreciate, but realise the post covid situation has been an impact, is more church or spiritual activity as we’d been led to understand this was a key element of the care when selecting a home. We accept this may also be dependent on the interaction of the local clergy rather than the home. On the whole extremely happy and impressed."

"My mother had therapy at Barchester Woodside House Care Home for six months. It was all quite excellent. They were all extremely loving, there was so much to do, and they helped her become better so she could be discharged. They were completely satisfactory, to us. It's lovely and extremely nice. Everything was neat, clean, and in order. There was nothing that didn't seem excellent."

"My overall stay has been extremely beneficial and helpful in my overall recovery from my operation. After the initial blip, I have had great treatment from all quarters of the care home. Hopefully, I won't need another "hip" operation, but I would definitely be back!"

"My stepmother of 97 was wheelchair-bound when she became a resident. She was disabled and wheelchair-bound. A very determined character trying to keep her independence but needing help. She gradually accepted this from the attentive carers and settled well. Within 4 weeks her pacemaker failed and she became bedbound. The care she received in the final weeks was second to none. All the staff from management to nursing staff and carers were cheerful, kind, and sympathetic. The home was bright, clean, tidy and the atmosphere calm and friendly. I would like to express my thanks to the staff and cannot praise them enough."

"Woodside House is a lovely home and my mum was very well cared for during her two years there. The whole staff team are excellent, very friendly and welcoming to our family. The staff are very caring and professional in their roles and obviously care greatly for their residents, respecting their wishes. It is an excellent environment, the rooms are spacious and there are activities arranged if they wish to participate. Overall it was the best home we looked at and are so pleased we choose it for our mum."

"I stayed here for three weeks after a time in hospital. The facilities were comfortable and adequate. The food was overall very good, varied and tasty. The staff were very helpful and provided as much assistance as you required. As I got stronger I required less assistance and the staff hen respected my privacy. There was entertainment provided and I did attend the remembrance concert which was very good. Overall, highly recommended for a short or long stay."

"The care given by the staff is exceptional, they treat the resident with great dignity. The events team include the resident whenever it's possible which stimulates the resident. The nursing staff keep me informed if needs be. The care/nursing home is very clean and the food is good, when it's hard to meet everyone's requirements everyone is very kind to me and respects me if I have any questions."

"My father recently moved to Barchester Woodside House Care Home, after 3 weeks in a hospice. The care and warm welcome he received at Woodside has been exceptional. The staff are warm, kind, caring. The facilities, rooms and gardens are of a very high standard. Most importantly my father seems very happy, enjoying events organised and secure. A great comfort to me and my family. I can't thank you enough. The staff all do a wonderful job and always with a smile."

"First visit to the home to check suitability for Mum was amazing. Beautiful environment, lovely, spacious rooms, private bathrooms, marvellous lounge and dining areas, lots of information and communication with carers. Staff so friendly and warming to do all they can right from manager through to the team. I am so impressed. Know my mum will be fine here and have everything she needs. Thank you."

"My friend has been a resident of Woodside since October 2019 and the service she receives is truly outstanding. The care and dedication of all the staff are absolutely wonderful. Everyone is amazing and the standard of care is fantastic. The food is healthy and scrumptious and the chefs cater for all dietary requirements. There is always a range of activities and events to suit every taste and the sensory table is very popular. Last but certainly not least I would like to praise all the staff for their hard work and devotion especially in this particularly stressful time due to the virus."

"My relative lived at Woodside House for two and a half years and was always full of praise for the high standards he experienced in every aspect of his care. As his next of kin and a regular visitor, that is what I experienced too. The staff in all areas managed to cope with precise professionalism with respectful and friendly courtesy, there is real warmth in the atmosphere, and it is a home in the very real sense. Certainly, my relative felt 'at home' soon after moving in."

"My mother has been in Woodside House since September. The whole experience has been exemplary. The care and concern that every member of staff with whom we have had contact has displayed great attention to the detail of her care and needs. All staff have a good knowledge of her and are interested in, and concerned about, her welfare. Communication with me is excellent and nothing seems to be too much trouble. I am extremely satisfied with Woodside House and its staff."

"My wife was initially a resident on a weeks respite. This was extended to two weeks due to a review in her first week whilst making a decision on future care/funding. The result was that she was eligible for full funding, and is now a full-time resident, subject to a three-month review. March was thus her first month, and the initial contact with the home, management, admin, carers and nurses was excellent. It was a difficult time for me, having been the sole carer for her for three years, with a huge gap in my life. There were of course concerns for her, and how she would adapt. Two or three visits a week were planned, but due to decisions made outside of my control, these had to stop from 16th March. A double whammy for me. I have not seen my wife since. The staff at the home, particularly admin, and even more so the two nurses on my wife's wing have been fantastic, keeping me informed about my wife, and always answering my questions and putting my mind at ease."

"My wife was admitted to the nursing home from hospital with great care and dignity. The deputy manager and all the staff have been extremely helpful and kind at all times through her stay. We could not have wished for better treatment. The manager introduced herself and was very professional in her position. The food was excellent at all times and the premises have achieved 100% effort for everything "Well Done"."

"The care my parents received at Woodside House for dementia and general nursing needs was of such excellence that I have continued as a volunteer in the home since their deaths, playing the piano and enjoying music with residents each week. As 'part of the furniture' I quietly continue to see management structures, natural teamwork and genuine compassion which encourage and enable residents and staff to reach out to each other, despite advanced dementia. Life is worth living at Woodside and this is the care I would wish for myself. Clearly, I can no longer comment on all the questions below (rooms, security, value for money) and so have ticked 'good'. My opinion of the food is strongly influenced by the wonderful tiny cakes offered to residents and visitors - especially the brownies!"

"My brother has been in the Barchester Woodside House Care Home for 18 months. He is always in pain with multiple fractures in his spine and ribs. He is slow in his movement and speech. He also has a bed sore which is taking a long while to heal. The staff look after him well but everyone is so busy and he would like to have someone to listen and talk with him and comfort him with his health concerns. He would like to discuss his medications with a doctor but has been unable to see one. Because he is in pain he is not happy. The staff are all very nice and do their best in the time that they have."

"Due to major upheavals, things at Woodside House have turned around. The care staff are very happy and extremely helpful. The residents seem happy and settled. The introduction of a tea trolley has proven very popular. After a short break of the activities being limited the new staff have lots of exciting things in store for residents. All the staff at Woodside House communicate to residents. The only improvement I could see is communication to families by using modern technology i.e. Text message and emails."

"Mum has been here two years. She has settled well and mostly happy. I feel although the staff work well, there are times when the residents are left longer without any stimulation than I feel is good for them. Mostly, the staff are friendly and helpful. The cleanliness is very good in rooms etc. Some personal care is not always as good: nail cutting and hair washing could be improved. As no place will ever be 100%, the home does well."

"Since the changes at Woodside House things have improved. The staff are very caring and are very friendly and happy. All residents are well looked after and seem to be relaxed. The activities have now been re-introduced due to a change of staff. This from what we have been told will be exciting. All staff in the home talk to residents from housekeeping to senior management. Residents are encouraged to get involved as much as they want. I think the home could improve communication by using SMS, email and all new technology available to them."

"Woodside House (Memory Lane) is furnished and maintained to the highest standard, but more important is the care and kindness shown by all staff, cleaners, laundry staff, carers, nurses and the management team. To quote my 22-year-old daughter when visiting last weekend "Mummy I love it that they are so respectful to Grandad" - this is hugely important to maintain his dignity, especially for dementia patients. Well done Woodside."

"My wife has been a resident of Woodside House care home for just over 8 months and I cannot speak highly enough of the treatment which has been afforded her. The staff have always been attentive and efficient and mindful of my wife's condition. I believe we owe my wife's life to the staff at Woodside because they spotted the first signs of pneumonia when she first arrived in August 2016 and their quick thinking allowed the emergency services to administer antibiotics before the infection was allowed to develop. Thank you Woodside for looking after my wife so well."

She is much safer than living at home, where she was really struggling. We would like to wish all staff at Woodside House a really happy Christmas and a great New Year 2017."

"My sister has only been in Woodside House for two and a half weeks and so far the care, kindness of the staff to everyone at all times (residents and visitors alike) is outstanding. The food seems very good, the rooms are kept very clean and fresh. The standard of laundry care is excellent. Clothes all nicely presented when brought back, care obviously taken with them. My expectations of the home has been reached and far exceeded my initial hopes, far better than I could have hoped for in all ways. Thank You."
