Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Read our brochure ‘Life-enriching activities’ for more information about life in our care homes.

Lynne Bowler
Activities Coordinator
I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.
I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Charity cake sale
Alfie, our fabulous head chef, has baked cupcakes and carrot cake to support Macmillan Coffee Morning In Poynton.
Every penny raised will help support people living with cancer and their families. We look forward to seeing the end total.

Watching the Euros!
Our lovely residents enjoyed watching the Lionesses winning the Euros. There was lots of encouragement and a lot of excitement during the penalty shot out and such excitement when we won!
Bikes at Adlington Manor!
As part of our commitment to the environment, we have up cycled a number of old bikes for decoration around our lovely gardens - the cycles were decorated and painted by our residents and staff to add colour and talking points.
Our courtyard looks amazing with the scent of flowers in the air and the sun shining down.

Adlington Manor celebrated VE Day 80th anniversary
VE day dawned with an air of expectation in our home. We were up at a moderately early time as our residents knew that we were going to have a lunchtime party. We spent the morning watching the celebration hoping that the sun would come out, but sadly, it was not warm enough to have our little street party outside.
The dining room was set up and an amazing buffet lunch was enjoyed by all; nostalgic songs from an era long past that inspired singing along too! Complements to the chef for providing a wonderful spread. We spent the afternoon and evening watching the celebration and retired to bed with a sense of an amazing day which staff, residentd and relatives all enjoyed.

£1000 raised!
A huge thank you to everyone who helped raise over £1000 for Barchester Charitable Foundation. Cliffe. Alfie and Maria for the half-marathon that they undertook before a full day's work, Adrian for his sponsored silence, Adriana gain for emptying his piggy band and everyone else who contributed – the funds will support people in the local communities.
WE are proud to be Divisional winners of the Barchester Care awards in this category and wish all winners in all the categories good luck at the National Awards.

Derby day
Please can this go on webpage – Saturday afternoon, and it is the Manchester Derby (football for those of us who think horse racing!) . But the ladies do not want this on the telly.
Thankfully, we have our wonderful rainbow table, and we were able to use this to watch the match – a glass of beer, crisps and friends on a huge screen and whichever team was supported, it was a great match which was thoroughly enjoyed.
Registered Nurse of the Year
Adrian Stoian at Adlington Manor Care Home has been crowned Registered Nurse of the Year for the North West and Midlands Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2025 and is through to the national round of judging.

World baking day!
Monday19th of May was world baking day.
We decided that we would love pizza for tea, so with the help of Alfie, our lovely Chef and Nurse Ruth, the pizza was duly delivered to everyone for tea and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Easter at Adlington Manor!
Eater Just would be the same without a lovely chocolate Easter egg.
The Easter bunny delivered eggs to all our residents, which made everyone smile and talk about memories of childhood. There was a lot of chocolate eating throughout the day!
Upcycling bike project
As the days and nights begin to draw in, memories of those long hot summer days when we were able to go to the beach, build sand castles, go crabbing in the pools and fishing at the end of the pier are a distant memory.
We have upcycled another bike to remind us in the dark days of winter of the warm halcyon days.
Fifi's Cocktail Bar
Fifi Cocktail bar and restaurant was open for a 1-day only outside dining extravaganza. We had an array of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails prepared by our very own mixologist, Fiona Gough, General Manger. The Passion Fruit martini and Raspberry mojito were particularly popular, with a bit of the past chilled dandelion and burdock.
Chefs Alfie and Mike prepared a beautiful array of tropical menus, which, given the temperature – around 33 degrees, was very well-received. A cooling paddling pool was available for soaking feet, and was a fabulous way to cool down. In the heat of the day, we returned inside for cooling ice lollies and drinks.

Ten years of long service
Mia Killeen has celebrated 10 years of Long Service – Mia is a senior carer who helps and supports our wonderful residents living with Dementia.
We would like to thank her for her love care and commitment and hope that she achieve many more long service awards.

A visit from the mayor
Counsellor Jon Weston, Mayor Bollington and Poynton village PCSO can for tea following the refurbishment of our Dementia unit.
They chatted with our lovely residents who enjoyed meeting new faces and were enthralled by the Mayor’s chain of office. Pictured with our amazing team of nurses and Fiona General Manger.

Employee of the Month
Amanda Taylor has been nominated by a number of people as Employee of the Month.
One lovely compliment from Tell Barchester has commented that she should be the poster girl for our home – she demonstrates all the values that we at Barchester treasure .
It is also National Elf day and we would encourage you to donate the Alzheimer’s society to enable care and research into Dementia.
