Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Lynne Bowler

Activities Coordinator

I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Life at Adlington Manor Care Home

Star Wars inspired fun

This week we celebrated all things Star Wars in honour of one of the most successful movie franchises of all time.

Our residents got involved in a variety of fun activities throughout the day, from movies to quizzes and dressing as our favourite characters.

Our talented chef prepared some tasty sweet treats and snacks to be washed down with our Star Wars-inspired mocktails.

The history of Coronations

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

Games afternoon

Here at Adlington Manor it’s been all fun and games this afternoon as Residents and staff took part in a games session and showed a little friendly competitiveness, singing along to their favourite songs before settling back to enjoy a refreshing cup of tea and a slice of home made cake.

Circus themed fun

Residents and colleagues enjoyed a fun filled circus themed day, there was lots of laughter throughout the home!  Residents enjoyed knocking down chocolate towers only to eat the proceeds broken in their attempts, juggling, reading their fortunes and playing games.

Having built up an appetite everyone tucked into a delicious spread of hot-dogs and fish and chips before settling back to relax with a movie afternoon watching classic ‘carry on’ movies with popcorn.

Exercising the mind, body and soul

Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Prestbury Beaumont.   Residents took advantage of a damp afternoon to enjoy a selection of puzzles, games and jigsaws.  As part of the homes life enrichment programme, we include firm favourites in the homes calendar with fun-filled adapted games that they played over the years in a safe environment!

'Hoppy' Easter fun

We celebrated Easter in style with a whole host of themed activities and egg-cellent entertainment. Our residents enjoyed decorating the home and a special visit from our Easter bunny.  In recognition of the day, our talented chef prepared a delicious feast for all to enjoy, from carrot soup, roasted lamb and salmon with creamed spinach to tasty chocolate cake and Easter biscuits.  As always, we’ve had an amazing time.
