Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Lynne Bowler
I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.
I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Life at Adlington Manor Care Home
Residents Remember the Fallen
To pay respect to and to remember those who lost their lives during wars, residents shared experiences and stories from their own experience of WWII. Many remembered this period even though they were still very young at the time war broke. The home has pulled together all their remarkable stories into a display whcih can be read by everyone who visits the home.
They also made poppy sun catchers and planted poppies in the garden and as a mark of respect, everyone wore something red on Remembrance Sunday, and staff dressed as members of the land army on the 11th. To cap the homes war-time celebration, resident singer, Debbie performed a medley of war time songs which saw everyone singing along too as they waved their union jack flags.
Bonfire Night
Residents recently enjoyed preparing for and celebrating Bonfire Night. Although they didn’t have a bonfire, they did get to spend the afternoon making a Guy to mark occasion in their arts & craft group session. It was a very interactive session as they shared ideas and suggestions of what the guy should like and who it should be! As part of this fun-filled afternoon it also saw them making some chocolate apples, which they tucked into after dinner.
As it was such a chilly night, many chose to enjoy watching a firework display on the TV however, some very brave ladies put on their overcoats and went out into the garden to light some sparklers. For many of them it was the first time that they had used sparklers! All in all, it made for a very enjoyable Bonfire Night.
Mayor Pops In For Coffee
Residents of Adlington Manor were surprised to see their local Mayor, Cllr Sarah-Jane Gilmore when she expectantly popped in for coffee and to chat to everyone. Cllr. Sarah-Jane Gilmor represents nearby town as the mayor and was elected as mayor of Poynton in May, and was preceded by herself… this is her third term as mayor!
Residents were thrilled at the visit, to talk to Sarah-Jane about the role and the opportunity to wear the official mayoral chain of office and remarked how heavy it felt!
Residents Go for Gold
The rain may have called off their sports day, but residents and staff at Adlington Manor did not let that dampen their spirits as they took the games indoors and warmed-up for their annual sports day.
Staff and residents took to their marks in a variety of games as guests cheered on. The teams battled it out to be crowned sporting champions by General Manager, Fiona Gough before being treated to a winners' afternoon tea and delicious home-made cake.
Fiona said: “We always encourage our residents to keep active. With summer on the way out we still had a great opportunity to move our activities indoors despite the weather. Our residents and their guest really enjoyed today and it was lovely to see so many of them getting involved. It reminded all of us of when we were kids at school!”
10 Years of Service
Laura Salter received her long service award for 10 year of hard work at the glorious Adlington Manor. Thank you Laura for looking after our resident so well!
Beach Day
Residents of Adlington Manor enjoyed a day at the beach without leaving the comfort of the home. An amazing day was had by all! Residents, relatives and colleagues were entertained by fan favourite vocalist, Debbie, the team served up some cocktails and tasty delights from the BBQ. There was a paddling pool and sand area for those who wished to experience the real feel of the beach.
The day was a roaring success; the weather was perfect and everyone is looking forward to the next event.
