Activities at Arbour Court Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a variety of activities and events for all residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus, visits from entertainers and musicians and small group and individual activities in quiet yet stimulating environments. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect resident individual interests as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Aimee Pickford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Aimee and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator & Dementia Champion here at Arbour Court. In 2019 I received my Level 3 Health and Social Care and decided I wanted to help and enrich the lives of others.

I started working at Arbour Court in January 2021 as a Care Assistant and progressed to be a Senior Carer. In October 2023 I moved onto the activities team as an Activities Team Leader. I love my role as one of our homes Activities Co-ordinators and love to find new and exciting ways to engage our residents.

I am also a Dementia Champion and work closely with our General Manager, Lisa and other Dementia Champions to implement Barchester's Dementia Framework within the home.

Being part of Arbour Court's family is very rewarding and I feel lucky to work in a great environment.

Mini Hero's

Whilst shielding at the height of the pandemic, staff night nurse Christine Morton kept herself busy creating wonderful gifts for the children of her colleagues, whose children she affectionately refers to as ‘mini heroes’.

Upon her return laden with the gifts it was of way of recognising the children who have had to adapt to many changes including long periods from their school friends and seeing their parents support Residents in long tiring shifts.   The beautiful handmade dolls clothes and blankets were left for her colleagues to choose from to take home to their little ones.   The doll kindly donated was won by nurse, Gill Dyson after her name was drawn from the hat.  Everyone would like to say a massive thank you to Christine for her kindness and generous gifts

Residents enjoy Community links

The residents of Arbour Court have been very lucky to receive lots of lovely mail from member of their local community. Children have taken great care in drawing pictures and writing letters in order to bring some cheer to the residents and neighbours sharing their activities which have kept them busy during lockdown.   The home invited members of the community to share their activities via the local Facebook page and were delighted with the response.  Residents chose their favourite ones and a prize has been sent to each winner.

Arbour hold virtual dog show

At Arbour Court we love our dogs and we hosted our very own virtual dog show for residents, family, and friends to shared their furry friends with us all too.  Dogs have fun loveable quirks, tricks and general gorgeousness. So, over the last few weeks we held our first ever virtual dog show at Arbour Court where we’ve got a whole host of fun categories.

The home was overwhelmed with the response and had to close the entries after only a few hours of the competition going live.  The entrants were judged by our dog-loving residents and after much deliberation, the winners were declared -  1st Place: Coco the Rescue Spaniel who is 8 Years old,  2nd Place: Otis the Blue Staffie who is 4 Years old, 3rd Place: Buddy the Guide Dog who is 7 Years old.    Certificates and Doggy prizes will be sent out to the winning dogs.

Kelly Tatton,  General Manager at the home, said: “We’re loved receiving all the photos of the lovely dogs, and have some big dog fans at Barchester and were delighted with the response. We are continually adapting, and finding new ways to make sure every effort is focused on creating an enjoyable environment for all of our residents”
