Activities at Ashby House Care Home
Activities at Ashby House
Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to enrich peoples lives here at Ashby House. We stimulate people both physically and mentally by organising fun filled, group and individual activities to promote the well-being of those we support.
There are regular outings in our very own minibus and visits from PAT dog therapists, church services, musicians, dancers, and local school children. We also have our very own 'Good Life' gardening club, where we grow our own produce, which we then use in our cooking club. We also host weekly bingo sessions which are proving very popular and are growing in numbers.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Ashby House Care Home
Summer Sunshine
We made the most of the last of the September sunshine and some of our residents got out into our lovely gardens here at Ashby House.
We all know that being outside in the fresh air has many benefits, including lifting our spirits, strengthening our immune functions, as well as enhancing relationships and prompting conversations.
We enjoyed looking at the plants and the changing colours of the leaves on the trees, taking in the sound of the wildlife and then we all had tea and coffee and biscuits together.
Chinese Dining
Our monthly-themed dining experiences always go down very well, with everyone enjoying the atmosphere and the cultural cuisine, and this month it was the turn of the popular Chinese theme.
The dining areas, as usual, were decorated beautifully, with music from Chinese culture playing in the background, and a wonderful, freshly made Chinese menu made by our chefs, which consisted of vegetable spring rolls, chicken in black bean sauce, sticky Chinese BBQ pork belly served on egg fried rice and a vegetable sweet and sour chow mein.
The residents really enjoyed the evening and are already looking forward to next months.
World First Aid Day
We had two community advocates, Shahid and Sina, from the Buckingham Branch of St Johns Ambulance come in and give our resident’s a talk and demonstrations on basic first aid.
They asked our group of residents if anyone had ever done any first aid before and two of our residents, Gill and Rose, both answered that they had, as Rose used to work as a District Nurse and Gill had worked in an older persons day centre.
The volunteers told us all about how to make a 999 call, checking people's airways for breathing; showed us a demonstration on how to put people in the recovery position, what to do when someone is choking, giving us a demonstration on how to give backslaps and abdominal thrusts.
Mayor of Milton Keynes BBQ Visit
Today at Ashby House we were delighted to welcome Milton Keynes's New Mayor of MK, Councillor Mohammed Khan, to join us for a lunchtime barbecue.
Residents and staff enjoyed meeting the Mayor today, who was shown around our home by our General Manager, Wojciech Kuczkowski, before enjoying lunch with us.
Pictured here one of our residents, Chung, enjoyed chatting about England's latest UEFA Euro 2020 Football results with the Mayor.
ASICS London 10K
We are pleased to announce that our General Manager, Wojciech Kuczkowski, will be taking part in the ASICS. The ASICS London 10K is staged on the world’s greatest race route through the heart of central London on Sunday 25th July 2021 and YOU have a chance to take part as the Barchester Charitable Foundation have six charity places available!

Families together on Father's Day
On Father’s Day we were delighted to welcome residents’ families to join their Dads in the Ashby House garden where we had a selection of drinks and treats including beer, tea & coffee, crisps and chocolate, for residents and visitors to enjoy. It was a little chilly and overcast but that didn’t matter as families were happy to spend some time relaxing together, including Ellis and his family.
