What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"The care given to residents is excellent and all efforts are made to ensure, wherever possible, residents are dressed, got up and taken to the dining room and lounge. The food is first-class, with plenty of choice. The layout is easy and safe with exits blocked but still access to outside space which is so important. Staff are all friendly and on first-name terms with visitors and residents. The care does not come cheap but it is well above average."

"The manager and all of her team are exceptionally kind, humourous and, above all, professional. Ashchurch View is a lovely welcoming home and the residents are treated respectfully. My mum has recently moved in on a permanent basis and everyone treated her warmly. Thank you to all and each of the team."

"My wife spent 2 weeks in respite care at Ashchurch View. It was quite obvious from the outset that the home was very welcoming and homely. All members of staff were superb and treated my wife with dignity and respect at all times. I would not hesitate to recommend Ashchurch View to anyone in need of permanent or respite care."

"My mother and stepfather came for respite care for two weeks. Both had different needs but these were easily accommodated and met. The staff are all helpful, cheerful and caring and whilst both were a little uncertain at the beginning, they soon settled and enjoyed taking part in the activities. Dietary requirements were also accommodated."

"I spent 4 weeks in respite care at Ashchurch View home and I can honestly say that I was made very welcome and always treated with respect and dignity. All of the staff were extremely kind and caring and always prepared to help if it was needed. I would not hesitate to recommend Ashchurch View to anyone who needed care or respite. The accommodation was excellent and the food adequate, if somewhat late at times."

"Mum has been very happy at Ashchurch View for the past 3 years. The home is always very clean, meals are well cooked with a choice of daily menu. The staff are very caring and respect her wishes. As a family, we were able to get together for the first time since Covid and the home pulled out all the stops to make it a memorable occasion for her and the family. All the staff are approachable and the home is well run. Thank you."

"It was my mums 94th birthday on April 8th and we haven’t been able to celebrate with her for a while. We asked the home if we could have a party for her and 20 members of her family. We were given a private room and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. They provided us with a fabulous buffet at a reasonable cost. Tea and coffee were provided on our arrival. Mum thoroughly enjoyed her day celebrating with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mum is very happy in the home the staff are very caring and professional. On a day to day basis mum seems quite content and happy and well looked after by all the great staff."

"I came for respite care straight from the hospital where I had surgery. I had to have a low-fibre diet because of the aftermath of the operation. This was excellently provided for me. After being in a ward of six, I found the private room with my own shower room very restful, day and night. I was able to sleep better than I did in the hospital. I realised the home was short-staffed (with an acting manager) as meals in the dining room took time (This did not worry me as I had to eat slowly). The staff were very helpful, I even had a cup of tea early in the morning, unlike the hospital there was no pressure on me to get up at a set time. A criticism is that the light in the shower room was dim and there was no main shaving point there."

"The staff on York ward have been so kind and attentive during the last few weeks of my father-in-law's life. They treated him with dignity and made him comfortable and chatted with him every time they came into the room, even when he was unconscious. All staff were very helpful with updates when we weren't able to visit. A lovely, friendly home."

"We were asked, by the hospital, to visit several care homes and choose one that we thought would be suitable for our elderly friend. He required full care as he could no longer physically look after himself and his home was not suitable for adaption. We chose Barchester Ashchurch View. The first impression was good, friendly, very pleasant atmosphere, open and airy design. Having visited many times during the months before the lockdown we knew we had made the right choice. He is well looked after; all the staff are friendly and get on with him very well. He is not a great eater now but what he has is good and he looks well. Although he prefers not to participate in the activities there is plenty for residents to do; the staff do keep him aware of what is going on in the home. By the way, his brain is as sharp as a pin!"

"I have visited quite a few care homes over the last few years and can honestly say that Ashchurch is by far the best one. The staff know all the resident's names and treat them with respect. The daily activities are well run and all residents are encouraged to take part. I can give no higher praise that if it came to the crunch I'd be happy to be a resident."

"My mother has been a resident now for 5 years and during that time has been well cared for. There have been issues at times with staffing and management but these appear to have been addressed in recent months and improving greatly. Likewise the activities on offer have greatly improved thanks to a new team. I was very impressed with the care and thought that went into the planning of my mother's 100th birthday recently. Everyone involved, including management, carers, cooks and cleaners seemed to take pride in making this a very special time for my mother. She feels very much a part of a "family" at the home. We are very fortunate that we are in a position to fund a home of this quality at present - my mother appreciates the attractive surroundings, ensuite room and comfortable communal areas. It is a pleasure to visit. Ultimately, however, the only thing that concerns me is that my mother is happy and comfortable and well supported by staff. I believe this to be the case."

"My father has only been in one night. Upon arrival, the assistant manager was very forceful in trying to get my father to eat and drink despite me explaining he hadn't eaten in five days and was clearly exhausted from transport. When I left my father seemed happy but upon returning the next day he was a little upset because the night carers had been responding to his calls with the response 'it's going to be a while until we get to you' and turning his call off, resulting in him wetting the bed."

"Staff leaving mum to dress herself in the mornings, which is a good thing while she still can. However, a couple of times visiting her in the afternoon she has been sat with only a jumper on her top half but no bra or vest on underneath. Might be a good idea for someone to put her clothes out ready for her to put on."

"The staff at the care home are excellent in attitude towards the residents. I have never had any concerns about my mother's safety. Sometimes I feel her room could be cleaner. "Warm, friendly environment. Always clean and no smells either in the home or personal hygiene. Kind, caring and very efficient staff who are always happy to talk through problems. Sometimes staff can be a little thin on the ground and the turnover is quite high. They are deserving of much higher rates of pay! Senior management is inconsistent - four managers in the last five years since the home opened."

"Mum has been at Ashchurch View for four years now and the staff have kept her in excellent health for her age (97 years). The carers and managers relate to her in a caring and fun way despite her having Alzheimer's disease. She has a beautiful room with high-end comfortable furnishings. There are regular entertainments such as singing, parties, animal visits e.g. PAT dogs and trips out. Customised menus and excellent personal care."

"After receiving the dreadful news that my mum was terminally ill and she only had a few months to live - I felt that the only choice we had for mum to receive the care that she deserved, would be to receive continuous care and that would be in a nursing home - I have to add that I was very reluctant, especially from all the dreadful stories you hear in the news etc. The hospital applied for fast track and found mum a place at Ashchurch View Tewkesbury. From the moment I walked in there, it felt right. The room that had been allocated to mum - very spacious - over looked a courtyard which she has door access to it, to go out and sit in. It is very clean and modern but very relaxed. The staff are absolutely wonderful - they are so friendly and so caring. They are looking after her so well. All her anxiety has gone, along with her confusion. I cannot believe how she has changed and this is due to the care that she is receiving. Words are not enough to express what an exceptional home this is. They have given me my old mum back - Thank you."

"My husband spent some weeks at Ashchurch View last year and we were so pleased with the care we brought him back earlier this year. This time he was much less able to care for himself physically. Gradually he lost his ability to communicate verbally. There continued to be excellent care from all the staff, right up to the time he died. All staff were caring, efficient and sympathetic. The care home was new, well designed, light and clean - very pleasant"

"From my first look around in seeking the right place for my 95 and a half-year-old dad, I was so impressed by the warm, friendly and lively atmosphere of the care home. Everywhere was clean, attractive, spacious and my dad had a lovely big room with a beautiful outlook that he loved. All the staff were so welcoming, friendly and treated people with genuine care and dignity. Dad was allowed to have so many different things from his home in his room - recliner chair, lamps, computer and computer table, lots of his big photos and wall clock and a lovely big bird station outside his patio doors...Home from home that helped him settle in quickly. He was in safe hands and received wonderful care from everyone. I visited 2 afternoons a week and there were a real atmosphere and good communication system between staff and family visitors. Dad enjoyed the food very much and our visits to the cafe in the home. He also, being an animal lover looked forward to seeing Holly the Collie who visited every week with his owner. When he was unwell, he received excellent, efficient care very speedily. We really valued the wonderful staff."

"My husband is disabled and needs 24 hour care. I had an operation to remove my gallbladder and he was looked after as a respite patient in Ashchurch View. He was treated with dignity and humour and felt his stay there was a 'home from home' rather than a care home."

"My Mum is a longer term resident of Barchester homes (14 years), and she has been at Ashchurch since it opened a few years ago. We moved to this home from another Barchester home because we knew we could depend on the best professional care and this new home has lovely big bedrooms, excellent communal areas, wide hallways for passing wheelchairs and beautifully designed courtyard garden. My Mum has her own patch of garden to tend and the carers help her do this. Think on the design of this home there has been no stinting on the facilities. The staff are very friendly, discreet and caring; I have no doubt that Mum is well looked after. She moved from a 'young unit' to this home with a mainly elderly population and although she is only 70, she has made some lovely friends amongst other residents and carers."

"An excellent care home, with caring and well-motivated staff. The staff understand that relatives of dementia sufferers also need care and support. Usually staffing levels are good, but occasionally there seems to be a shortfall. You can never have too many staff, especially on a dementia unit."

"Both my parents were residents of Ashchurch View until my mother's death last year; my father continues to be a resident at this wonderful care home. When they both moved in, they had very different needs (my mother had dementia, my father had poor mobility), but the staff went out of their way to accommodate them and we were lucky that they were able to keep them together for as long as possible. The staff are always professional and caring; they respect the dignity of the residents and get to know them individually, so that they can respond to their individual needs (this applies not only to the carers, but also to the housekeeping and kitchen staff). As a relative, the staff have also offered me reassurance and support, particularly during the last few weeks of my mother's life. My father never wanted to lose his independence, but it is testament to the wonderful care he receives that he is content and consistently complementary about the home and its staff."

"My mother was admitted into the dementia unit in July 2015. She has settled in well and we have such peace of mind that she is safe. All the permanent members of staff who work there are absolutely wonderful. They look after mum with such love and dignity and they have got to know her and respond well to her needs. They also care for us too - nothing is too much for them. They are very loving and dedicated team of amazing staff. Thank you all. Also, the management team, reception staff and office staff have always been very welcoming, and approachable, and we feel able to come to them with any concerns we might have. Thank you again - all of you!"

"My mother had end of life care at this home (she had M.N.D) and my husband (Parkinson's disease and Lewey Body Dementia) - I cant praise this home enough. They are all dedicated staff committed to provide the best environment possible. They have provided the utmost support to myself, mum's family and my husbands. I consider them all as part of my extended family. Why aren't homes like this featured in the news? I am sure all the homes in the Barchester group are the same."

"Mom has been a resident here since February 2016 and in May the decision was taken to move her upstairs into nursing care, where she has flourished - in part due to the higher ratio of staff who care for her with kindness and where possible, engaging her in activities. Many of them go the extra mile to help enrich the lives of residents within the boundaries of their complex needs. All the staff I have met have been very friendly, polite and approachable and will listen to any concerns I may have, as best as it can be with Mom no longer able to live independently. She has settled here."

"Ashchurch View has been a home from home for my mother, who has Alzheimer's disease. The staff are very patient with her and afford her every opportunity to choose the activity she will do, what she will wear, what she will eat, and who will tend to her personal needs such as washing and toilet. Her room is always warm in the colder months and her bed and furniture are extremely comfortable and smart. Her surroundings are always clean and presentable, and she has a lovely view from her window. Even the non-care staff, such as housekeeping staff, enjoy chatting with her and when they have time they sit and read a magazine or book with her. The Dining Room and TV Lounges are beautifully decorated, as is her bedroom. There is access to TV, radio, film and music, both live and recorded. All in all, she could not really be more comfortable."
