What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"First-class service. Could not fault anything. Nothing was too much trouble with any of the staff. If you required anything or asked any questions, they always sorted them out in a friendly and helpful manner. Would recommend the home to anyone that asked how I found he home."

"My mother and stepfather came for respite care for two weeks. Both had different needs but these were easily accommodated and met. The staff are all helpful, cheerful and caring and whilst both were a little uncertain at the beginning, they soon settled and enjoyed taking part in the activities. Dietary requirements were also accommodated."

"I spent 4 weeks in respite care at Ashchurch View home and I can honestly say that I was made very welcome and always treated with respect and dignity. All of the staff were extremely kind and caring and always prepared to help if it was needed. I would not hesitate to recommend Ashchurch View to anyone who needed care or respite. The accommodation was excellent and the food adequate, if somewhat late at times."

"It was my mums 94th birthday on April 8th and we haven’t been able to celebrate with her for a while. We asked the home if we could have a party for her and 20 members of her family. We were given a private room and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. They provided us with a fabulous buffet at a reasonable cost. Tea and coffee were provided on our arrival. Mum thoroughly enjoyed her day celebrating with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mum is very happy in the home the staff are very caring and professional. On a day to day basis mum seems quite content and happy and well looked after by all the great staff."

"I came for respite care straight from the hospital where I had surgery. I had to have a low-fibre diet because of the aftermath of the operation. This was excellently provided for me. After being in a ward of six, I found the private room with my own shower room very restful, day and night. I was able to sleep better than I did in the hospital. I realised the home was short-staffed (with an acting manager) as meals in the dining room took time (This did not worry me as I had to eat slowly). The staff were very helpful, I even had a cup of tea early in the morning, unlike the hospital there was no pressure on me to get up at a set time. A criticism is that the light in the shower room was dim and there was no main shaving point there."

"The staff on York ward have been so kind and attentive during the last few weeks of my father-in-law's life. They treated him with dignity and made him comfortable and chatted with him every time they came into the room, even when he was unconscious. All staff were very helpful with updates when we weren't able to visit. A lovely, friendly home."

"My wife spent 2 weeks in respite care at Ashchurch View. It was quite obvious from the outset that the home was very welcoming and homely. All members of staff were superb and treated my wife with dignity and respect at all times. I would not hesitate to recommend Ashchurch View to anyone in need of permanent or respite care."

"My mother was looked after with dignity and respect. She was shown love, care and kindness during her stay. She loved the activities, especially the trips out such as the strawberry picking and the boat trip. Thank you to all the staff who made her last few months comfortable and secure. I and the whole family are very grateful."

"The home has been a lovely place for my dad to spend his final years. Despite Covid, the home has been determined to give the residents as full a range of opportunities to enjoy life as possible. I thoroughly recommend it."

"My mum lived at Ashchurch View for two and a half years until she recently passed away. In the time she was there she was happy and regarded it as her home. What impressed me the most was a truly professional approach to each resident and the smiling, engaging staff. Thank you Ashchurch mum received wonderful care."

"We were asked, by the hospital, to visit several care homes and choose one that we thought would be suitable for our elderly friend. He required full care as he could no longer physically look after himself and his home was not suitable for adaption. We chose Barchester Ashchurch View. The first impression was good, friendly, very pleasant atmosphere, open and airy design. Having visited many times during the months before the lockdown we knew we had made the right choice. He is well looked after; all the staff are friendly and get on with him very well. He is not a great eater now but what he has is good and he looks well. Although he prefers not to participate in the activities there is plenty for residents to do; the staff do keep him aware of what is going on in the home. By the way, his brain is as sharp as a pin!"

"Warm welcoming and friendly positive vibes! Tiny suggestions: - Food is good - but could be a bit warmer - Staff are lovely but resident wishes they could come quicker when button is pressed. - If possible please encourage father in law to interact with activities/spend time in the lounge. Thank you for looking after my father in law."

"Barchester Ashchurch View had been my dad's first choice when he was a resident in York suite and his experience over two years, when support was needed, was exemplary and this became my first choice when my husband needed to have care for dementia. The staff are so caring, patient, cheerful and encouraging. They respect people's dignity and show great empathy for their feelings. There are plenty of activities on offer to stimulate interests and skills and the food is so tasty with plenty of choice. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and homely and all the nostalgic memory objects and pictures are reassuring and comforting. There are plenty of areas to visit in perfect safety within the unit too, giving space and privacy."

"Mum's welcome was good for her to start eight weeks respite. All went well, Mum was placed next to the nurses station due to a lot of falls. Mum hasn't complained about any of the staff. Very attentive and ready for a joke and a laugh. The eight weeks have taken Mum time to relax and get to know the staff and the same for them. We, as a family, hope Mum can stay here and we know she is being well looked after."

Food is excellent, they cater for all requirements. My mother is happy and as comfortable as she can be, the nursing staff are really looking after her."

"Wonderful event organised by the lovely team yesterday. A (sizeable) group of motorbike enthusiasts and club members gathered outside Barchester Ashchurch View and allowed the residents to view/chat and even sit on a beautiful bike! (The latter being my mum!) Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon. Thank you to all who organised the event (including teas and cake makers.)"

"If the time comes when I need care in a nursing home, this is where I would like to be. Some would say that the only reason is that the food is good but every aspect of the care is excellent. Every member of staff gave my sister-in-law the very best of attention and treated her with dignity when she died."

"Mum was welcomed for respite care at Barchester Ashchurch View at short notice on a Saturday evening following a hospital stay. After just a few days, Mum felt she had put down roots and praised the staff for their kindness. Mum's room looked out onto a pretty, quiet courtyard and was in the nursing wing. Mum enjoyed the comings and goings of the nursing wing. We found the home well-led, all the staff we met were caring and appeared aware of their roles and responsibilities. We only saw one meal that Mum ate - portion was good, menu was balanced. The cakes in the cafe were always fresh and tasty!"

"My mum stayed at Barchester Ashchurch View twice recently following discharge from hospital and before going home. Thank you to all the team who cared for her, responding to requests quickly. It was really helpful to have nursing care available and such a willing, friendly group of carers. She appreciated being able to meet friends in the coffee area where they could help themselves to a drink and even cake! The catering was good. Great that there is also an attractive courtyard to use on sunny days. Thank you everyone!"

"The team at Barchester Ashchurch View have been amazing from the first communication to the last. They looked after my grandfather with the utmost care and we know he was in the safest hands. The team are brilliant. They took all the stress and worrying out of having to care for him at home for so long. It's a very clean, pleasant care home and I recommend to everyone. Thank you all so much."

"My mother has been at Barchester Ashchurch View for four months now and the staff I have met on my visits have been wonderful and so caring. She has a lovely room with views over the fields and although she is largely bedbound, the staff have recently encouraged her to get about in a chair which means she can enjoy more of the excellent activity programme. Staff have made a particular effort to create a colourful plant area outside my other's window. Food is excellent and my mother can request extra fruit. I enjoy seeing the interaction of staff with my mother when I visit. Sometimes it feels like they struggle on staff numbers but certainly those working are so kind, friendly and helpful making Ashchurch a very special home."

"My wife has been in residence for about two weeks, and although it took a while for her to settle in she now appears reasonably content. The welcome she received, with an attractive card, and a friendly relationship offered to me as well, was much appreciated, particularly after a difficult period in hospital. The staff always appears to be cheerful and willing to help as much as possible, though I think she feels that calls for help sometimes seem to take rather a long time to materialize. The room is very pleasant and the appearance of cats at the window is always welcome, largely due to a life spent in their company. I realise that activities are minimal as she is bedridden, but she appreciates the company, and if any staff have spare time for a chat. That would always go down well."

"The care given to residents is excellent and all efforts are made to ensure, wherever possible, residents are dressed, got up and taken to the dining room and lounge. The food is first-class, with plenty of choice. The layout is easy and safe with exits blocked but still access to outside space which is so important. Staff are all friendly and on first-name terms with visitors and residents. The care does not come cheap but it is well above average."
