Activities at Ashcombe House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Michelle Martin

Activities Coordinator

I’m a fun, loud and outgoing individual who loves organising fun activities for residents at Ashcombe House (and staff, if possible). I’m very creative and keep the residents very active, both mentally and physically In my spare time, I love doing a lot of fundraising, which usually ends up with me sliding in mud.

Life at Ashcombe House Care Home

Santa Came to Ashcombe!

The big man himself managed to take time out of his busy schedule to drop in and surprise residents at the Christmas party, his sleigh was full of goodies and he visited every resident with a special gift for Christmas!

Glass Workshop

Residents took part in a fused glass workshop with the Glass Duck, we were shown how to create designs before being let loose for our own designs. Residents had a wonderful time and our Christmas decorations came out amazing and took pride of place on the Christmas tree.

Baking club gets festive

Our Baking club enjoyed making some homemade mince pies recently. A secret recipe for the best pastry ever was shared by the homes chef, Mark, and our team of taste testers agreed, they were the best mince pies we have ever made! Residents enjoyed this was a hot cup of tea and a Christmas movie.

Lest We Forget

To commemorate Remembrance Day, residents and staff were treated to a unique creative workshop from the English National Ballet and joined them with the national two minutes silence. Residents took part in craft activities creating poppy displays and watched the service from the cenotaph. Many of our residents have personal ties to the military and many have experience conflict so to come together and remember all those who gave so much was really important. The afternoon continued with singing from Rosalind O’Dowd.

Open the Book

A team formed from the local churches have been coming together to deliver interactive Bible Stories for our residents. Each week a new story from the Bible is brought to life through a team of Volunteers, props and narration.

Festival of Lights

Diwali is the five-day Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. Diwali, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. We decorated the home with Battery candles to commemorate Diya’s which are small lamps that are traditionally lit at Diwali, colourful bunting, Indian dance and music filled the lounge and rooms. Staff were treated to traditional Indian foods all homemade by our Nurse Anita.
