Activities at Ashcombe House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Michelle Martin

Activities Coordinator

I’m a fun, loud and outgoing individual who loves organising fun activities for residents at Ashcombe House (and staff, if possible). I’m very creative and keep the residents very active, both mentally and physically In my spare time, I love doing a lot of fundraising, which usually ends up with me sliding in mud.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Ashcombe House Care Home

Guide Dog Visit

Ellen Young from Guide Dogs UK came to Ashcombe with her 17 week old guide dog in training, ‘Rod’. Ellen told us about the training each puppy goes through in the first 13-18 months before they graduate to a more intensive training program.

Ellen has volunteered for 30 years for Guide Dogs UK and has raised 32 puppies. Residents enjoyed meeting Rod and it was a good part of his training to meet a group of people in a different environment.

Creative Minds

We were joined by Kayleigh from Creative Minds for an art workshop. Using pastels, paints, pencils and chalks, residents created some beautiful autumn artwork. Art is very relaxing and very good for hand dexterity. The artwork is now framed and displayed in the home.

Summer Virtual Cruise

Residents enjoyed a virtual cruise with an interactive cookery demonstration, taking in mocktails, exotic dishes and mystery destinations, courtesy of Paul Hawkins and Linda Richards from Unilever's away-from-home team. who support the care sector.

The afternoon continued with live singing from Anthony Allgood to celebrate Cliff Richard's birthday with hits through the years. One of our residents had met Sir Cliff himself and even shared a drink with him, so the afternoon brought back lots of wonderful memories.

Creepy Critters

Reptiles, rodents and even a giant snail were welcomed from the animal handling company, Zoolab, who specialise in bringing reptiles and small animals into the home.

We were educated on the different species with plenty of fascinating facts before being able to hold the animals. An hour was spent showcasing the animals in the home's main lounge before venturing off around the home in bedrooms, so nobody missed out.

Wine Tasting Masterclass

Learning about the wonderful world of wine, we hosted a live virtual experience with Nick Parker & Lee Issac from Unity Wines. We were able to learn about wine, the flavours and aromas, all before tasting each one, which was followed by cheese and crackers.

Tony Serenades the Ladies

We enjoyed singing entertainment once again with reminiscence singer, Anthony Allgood, performed songs from the 1920s onwards. Tony even managed to get a few blushes from the ladies as he serenaded them whilst on bended knee!  Music is an important part of our life enrichment programme and it was fabulous to be able to enjoy this again.
