Activities at Ashcombe House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Michelle Martin

Activities Coordinator

I’m a fun, loud and outgoing individual who loves organising fun activities for residents at Ashcombe House (and staff, if possible). I’m very creative and keep the residents very active, both mentally and physically In my spare time, I love doing a lot of fundraising, which usually ends up with me sliding in mud.

,

Rosebourne Garden Centre

A new garden centre has just opened in Aldermaston and we were very excited to go and visit. Everyone enjoyed looking at all the gifts and garden ornaments before stopping in the café for a lovely lunch and well-earned cup of tea.

,

Games Afternoon

Nobody was 'board' when we held a games afternoon at Ashcombe. Residents played a variety of games, with something for everyone. Scrabble provided some interesting words – some that were definitely made-up) – and Connect 4 became quite competitive. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and they are already planning who and what they want to play next time.

Cake Competition

Cake Competition

Barchester hold an annual Christmas cake competition. Our keen baking club designed and baked a cake designed on a traditional Christmas jumper. We were very pleased to be announced winners in the south division for our cake and the keen bakers are already thinking of a theme for next year!

,

Costello School

Costello Secondary School came to Ashcombe and participated in meeting residents, decorating cakes and making cards. Both the residents and children enjoyed the visit. Costello will be working with us throughout the year with Children from years 7 & 8, the children are planning the activity for their next visit and our residents can’t wait to see them again.

,

Elf Day

Straight from the North Pole, we hosted an Elf Day to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society. Staff and residents dressed in their very best elf attire to enjoy a day of games. Prizes were awarded for the best dressed elf and everyone enjoyed themselves. We finished the day with some Buck's Fizz and mince pies.

,

Ashcombe's Mad Scientist

Residents enjoyed an educational afternoon with our Activities Coordinator, Michelle, otherwise known as 'Ashcombe's Mad Scientist'. Residents loved the variety of science experiments. We made a hurricane in a bottle using glitter, a lava lamp, magic milk and sock snakes.
