Activities at Ashfields Care Home

At Ashfields, we strive to make our care and services as person-centred as we possibly can, and this includes our provision of activities. We will give prospective residents a 'Getting to Know Me' booklet to fill out with their loved ones before their arrival, which includes a little life history and a tick sheet for a vast amount of activities. This enables us to offer bespoke activities and helps us to learn valuable information about residents and what might stimulate them in conversations and trips.

Our specialist activities and lifestyle staff make sure there are always meaningful activities to take part in, such as gardening, baking and trips out to various locations nearby, including local cathedrals, cafés, garden centres and much more.

Residents are encouraged to take part and we try to get every person out at least once a month to places they might be interested in visiting, but it is always their choice, ultimately. We believe that having choice is very integral in helping residents feel that they still have control of their lives.

Activities are provided by everyone in our home, from Carers and specialised activities staff, right through to the admin team.

We are a registered member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA), which means that we are always working to make the quality of life of all residents as high as possible by offering person-centred activities that aim to stimulate both mentally and physically.

Xen Greenwood

Activities Coordinator

My name is Xen and I am lucky enough to be the Activities Coordinator here at Ashfields.

I have experience working in care homes in Activities and leisure and lifestyle roles. In my own time I love to go antique shopping and making crafts.

I love being part of the Ashfields team and supporting our residents to live their best lives with fun, interesting, and varied activities available every week. I always feel its important for the residents to have the opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous interests and hobbies.

Life at Ashfields Care Home

, ,

Pub Visit

Ashfields care home takes full advantage of the sunshine and visited a local pub to have a nice cold beverage beside the Norfolk Broads.

Easter

The Easter bunny visited Ashfields care home after hearing about their Easter eggstravaganza. Bunny thought it would be a great idea to hold an Easter egg hunt, and hand out chocolate eggs. The Easter bunny really enjoyed seeing the residents at Ashfields beam from ear to ear with big smiles and lots of laughter she decided to stay to play a few Easter games. Residents participated in “Hoop the loop on the bunnies ears” and “don’t drop the egg” walk. We listened to the most fitting songs from Fred Astaire on YouTubes “vintage Easter songs” whilst tucking into fruit scones and vanilla cupcakes.

Beach Visit

“Oh we do like to be beside the sea side” Ashfields care home makes the most of the beautiful weather. After checking the weather forecast we decided to pack our coats and took a minibus trip down to the coast, Great Yarmouth.

St Patrick's Day

St Patrick’s celebrations here at Ashfields included, Irish themed dining with traditional Irish music, Guinness Tasting, Irish coffees and the Irish jig!

Hawaiian Party

Ashfields decided to have a Hawaiian themed party. We first made our very own coconut bunting whist singing along to “I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts” Once all the decorations where up we took a mini bus trip to our local supermarket Tesco to purchase a variety of fresh fruit for our exotic fruit tasting session. With our mock tails in hand we hula danced through the afternoon. One resident mentioned she “didn’t even notice it had been raining outside, the themed activity made her feel as if she was on a tropical island”

Pancake Day

The popular name for Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Day marks the start of the build-up to Easter. Residents at Ashfields care home enjoyed a variety of pancake themed activities earlier this month. From pancake tasting, word games, and information session to pancake flipping.
