Activities at Austen House Care Home
Here at Austen House, we like to get to know those we support, and from the day of moving in, our activities team will spend time on an individual basis learning about interests, likes and dislikes, life history and favourite hobbies.
We provide a wide range of activities, from one-to-one time, manicures and board games, through to live entertainment, prize bingo and our ever-popular cheese & wine events. Our activities team will also tailor individual activities to ensure residents can have as much or as little involvement as they choose.
In the summer months, greater focus is given to outdoor activities, such as barbecues and garden parties. In conjunction with our Chef, themed events are planned throughout the year, bringing activities and food together.
In their pink polo shirts, our activities team are easily identifiable and embrace ideas and suggestions from residents and their relatives to ensure that the activities provided keep those we support engaged, stimulated and entertained.

Life at Austen House Care Home
Arts in Care Homes Day
We celebrated Arts in Care Home Day with the residents and put up an art gallery for them all to enjoy each other’s work. We love doing arts and crafts and have even enjoyed and paint and wine afternoon.
Flower Power
Autumn flower arranging with the residents are one of their favourite activities! We love looking at all the amazing nature colours, especially the sunflowers. The residents enjoy being able to admire their work around the home.
Making dreams come true
A sensory garden was created for David at Austen House. David has a great love for gardening and with the support of the team at Austen House they have created his own personal garden to tend to plants and herbs and to share with the other residents. It has become a big success.
Celebrating 64 years of marital bliss
This lovely couple have recently celebrated 64 years of marriage. Staff at Austen House made sure it was a special afternoon. With afternoon tea in the garden and cards and presents from loved ones. Here's to lots more making memories together.
Friends visiting
Austen House have a fabulous relationship with the local toddler group. They are always connecting with them any way they can. They have missed their visits into the home. Staff arranged a surprise visit from some of them. Although it has to be through a window at the moment. The residents faces lit up when they heard the laughter coming from the car park. The visit wouldn't have been complete without lovely gifts of kindness for everyone.
Baking fun
Residents spent an afternoon, whipping, stirring, baking and then decorating cakes for their afternoon tea. There was enough for everyone and all washed down with a lovely cup of tea. Next time its pizza making.
