Activities at Awel-Y-Mor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Jo & Julie

Activities Coordinators

Awel-Y-Mor's activities team consists of three Activities Coordinators, each having a specialist unique role within the group, including work in the multi-sensory concept, as well as organising days out, trips to sporting events and pop concerts, and arranging themed days. Jo has been with us for over ten years, beginning her Barchester career as a Carer, and Julie joined us in 2018.

Life at Awel-Y-Mor Care Home

St David's Day

Residents enjoyed baking Bara Brith and Welsh Cakes in time to celebrate St. David’s Day. We were listening to Welsh music in the background with Welsh flags hanging from the ceilings and daffodils in vases.

Chinese New Year

The residents had a lovely Chinese takeaway evening in recognition of Chinese New Year. The atmosphere was full of laughter and excitement; it almost felt like going out. The smell and the taste of the food was mouth-watering  and delicious. The residents can’ t wait for next month.

Springs Arts

The residents have started a new spring arts and craft project. The first step is for the residents to paint their own coloured paper using watercolour as a medium, where they are painting a wet on wet technique, which allows the paint to spread out in unexpected ways. Many residents have not done this before, so they are learning a new skill. Once the coloured paper is dry and cut out, this is to create a collage for our painting.

We are using an old canvas for this project, so we are also recycling. Once finished it will hang up in the home.

Pancake Day

Who could not resist our pancakes on Pancake Day with a variety of sauces and toppings to go on them?. It went down well with the residents and staff; maybe we should have pancake day more than once a year!.

Friday Night Takeaway

Friday night takeaway was a great success. Residents sat in the dining room eating burger and chips with a slice of cheesecake or a bowl of fruit for dessert and enjoying a glass of beer of prosecco.

It was full of laughter and fun, listening to music that was playing in the background and the dining room decorated with flowers and candles for a restaurant feel atmosphere.

Squirrel Appreciation Day

This was the first time that Awel-Y-Mor celebrated Squirrel Appreciation Day. Residents had a laugh wearing the squirrel hats, read up about squirrels from the handouts and enjoyed a nut tasting afternoon.
