Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Donna Brooks

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange.

I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities.

I'm bright and bubbly, so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able.

As I get to know the residents likes and dislikes, if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please pop in and see me.

Burns Night celebrations at Bedewell Grange

Residents at Bedewell Grange had a great day celebrating Burns Night.

To honour the famous Scottish poet, we hosted a poetry and music session to learn more about the Scottish Country Dancing and the Ceilidh and to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.

Our tables were specially decorated with flowers and Scottish flags for the occasion as our residents enjoyed delicious Haggis, Neeps and Tatties followed by some delicious Dundee Cake prepared by our talented chef.

We all had a wonderful time learning more about Robert Burns and the Scottish culture and traditions.

Cooking Club at Bedewell Grange

Residents at cooking club this week prepared something a little more savoury than usual.

We did plenty of reminiscing of days gone by whilst we made these perfect cheese scones. They were thoroughly enjoyed warm with lashings of melted butter!

International Flower Day at Bedewell Grange

Our residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day. The residents picked their own flowers and made some beautiful hand tied bouquets and arrangements, but we weren’t without prickles from the roses, so we’ve agreed to keep them out next time

The collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.

It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all.

Karaoke at Bedewell Grange

The karaoke is in full swing!

We’ve had some great days this week singing and dancing to our favourite tunes on the karaoke machine. Music really is the best therapy!

Bingo fun at Bedewell Grange

We were all ‘chocolated out’ after Christmas, so instead of our usual sweet treat prizes for bingo, our residents got to choose from a box of handmade knitted hats and gloves!

These were beautifully made for us and donated in 2021 and the ladies were so happy to receive them as their prizes!

,

National Shortbread Day

It’s ‘National Shortbread Day!’

To celebrate the day residents made their own delicious shortbreads in our afternoon baking club and it's safe to say they were thoroughly enjoyed.

We definitely have a few sweet tooths here at Bedewell Grange!
