Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange care home Hebburn. I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able. As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Life at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Residents mark Remembrance Day with English Ballet

We celebrated Remembrance Day with English National Ballet Associate Dance Artist, Richard Bermange, who led a creative dance workshop for our residents followed by a short clip of Akram Khan’s work Dust, premiered in 2014 as part of ENB’s Lest We Forget programme, commemorating the First World War.

An ENB Company Dancer, recalled their account of performing in the piece and provided context to the themes. To bring this element to a close, some of the specific hand movements from the duet were demonstrated by Jennie Harrington - Artistic Coordinator.

Our residents had a wonderful time as they listened, danced and were able to singalong to famous war time music performed by ENB Associate Musician, Matt Hartley-Stevens.

The session incorporated the national two minute’s silence at 11am to mark the exact time the guns fell silent at the end of the First World War in 1918.

Hebburn Primary School and Bedewell Grange come together!

Hebburn primary school and Bedewell Grange joined forces to create a remembrance day memorial display, paying tribute to armed forces members lost in the line of duty.

To commemorate the day, pupils at Hebburn Lakes Primary School made 100 special poppies to be part of a remembrance day display at Bedewell Grange Care Home.

The idea for the display came about after the care home reached out to the school, wanting to get back into the Hebburn community in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, with 100 poppies being made by staff, pupils and parents.

Pupils at Hebburn Lakes were more than happy to help and residents at Bedewell Grange Care Home were delighted with how the poppy display turned out.

Thank you to Hebburn Lakes for our beautiful display!

Halloween preparations in full swing

This week, residents and staff at Bedewell Grange have been getting in the Halloween spirit and been carving pumpkins ready for Sunday. For these residents, it was the first time ever doing so, and they particularly did not enjoy the smell or the texture - but they loved to see their finishing project!

We also created an impressive autumnal/Halloween display in our foyer, which also showcases the homemade yarn pumpkins which were made earlier this week by a few of the residents.

Our pumpkins were donated by our always generous local Morrisons - thank you very much!

Boogie in Buttercup

Today in buttercup - we’ve been having a boogie! Our residents in buttercup relish in our karaoke and dancing sessions. It completely lifts their spirits.. We managed to capture some amazing photos of them having a fab afternoon with staff and other residents.

Nana's who knit club

We had a lovely chilled afternoon watching ‘The Glen Miller story’ and showing off our skills with the knitting needles. We do have some very talented ladies

National Homemade Cookie Day

What better way to celebrate ‘National homemade cookie day’ than to make delicious cookies ourselves. Always our willing volunteer, Eddie, made some lovely white chocolate cookies today, which all went down lovely with a cup of tea.. yum!
