Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Donna Brooks
My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange.
I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities.
I'm bright and bubbly, so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able.
As I get to know the residents likes and dislikes, if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please pop in and see me.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Birthday celebrations
Birthdays are a firm fixture in our life enrichment programme and we have recently celebrated Margaret’s special birthday – 90-years young. The birthday girl spent the day surrounded by her families and friends.
We enjoyed live entertainment with popular vocalist, Sam who performed a medley of hits from 50s through to the 90’s bringing everyone to their feet to dance and sing. Margaret was also visited by her grandchildren before rounding off the celebrations with a birthday cake and a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday.

London Ladies
As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.
Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.
Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.

Bingo Bonanza
Across the country our homes and hospitals came together to find out which care home or hospital had the best Bingo players as we teamed up for Barchester’s Bingo Bonanza.
Residents were treated to some exciting virtual games of Bingo as part of Barchester’ very own game show series.
Everyone who participate had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Burn's Night
We celebrated burns night here at Bedewell with the traditional haggis , neaps and tatties.
Some of our residents were trying haggis for the first time whilst others had tried it whilst visiting Scotland.
In this month’s residents meeting it was requested we have a regular tipples trolley. We enjoyed numerous tipples ,baileys being a firm favourite and of course we couldn’t celebrate burns night without a whisky
Our residents enjoyed a party with music and Scottish hats.

Weekly Choir Practice
We have been joining our sister home Harton Grange for weekly choir practice. Choir practice is run by Nicky and Liz from equal arts.
Equal arts is a creative ageing charity supporting older people and those living with dementia.
It’s always joyful afternoon with lots of dancing. Its lovely to see the friendships forming between residents in the two care homes.
We will be performing songs we’ve learnt for the public in south shields library in march joining others involved in care home choirs.

Dance, Stretch and Exercise
Our residents always look forward to our exercise class. We like to keep it interesting by using props such as balloons and thera bands. We did a routine to proud Mary by Tina turner which was full of energy complete with big action movements.
Exercise is good for our physical and mental well being and improves the ability to do everyday activities. Exercise can strengthen our muscles which helps with mobility.
