Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Donna Brooks

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange.

I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities.

I'm bright and bubbly, so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able.

As I get to know the residents likes and dislikes, if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please pop in and see me.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Weekly Choir Practice

We have been joining our sister home Harton Grange for weekly choir practice. Choir practice is run by Nicky and Liz from equal arts.

Equal arts is a creative ageing charity supporting older people and those living with dementia.

It’s always joyful afternoon  with lots of dancing. Its lovely to see the friendships forming between residents in the two care homes.

We will be performing songs we’ve learnt for the public in south shields library in march joining others involved in care home choirs.

Dance, Stretch and Exercise

Our residents always look forward to our exercise class. We like to keep it interesting by using props such as balloons and thera bands. We did a routine to proud Mary by Tina turner which was full of energy complete with big action movements.

Exercise is good for our physical and mental well being and improves the ability to do everyday activities. Exercise can strengthen our muscles which helps with mobility.

Valentine's virtual event

Across our homes we had a fantastic time joining, Kathryn Delve, Master Florist, for a Valentine’s-inspired live virtual flower arranging demonstration. Kathryn shared brilliant and creative ways to decorate our tables with beautiful flowers that are sure to make your heart swoon!

Those participating in this virtual event put their skills to the test and followed along with some amazing creations of their own.  Residents truly enjoyed the experience.

Weekly Baking Sessions

We enjoy baking sessions weekly and enjoy sharing recipes and stories of the good old days when Sundays were baking days. Ruby talked of all the pies cakes and treats her family all enjoyed after a day of baking. We made a cheese and ham pie and we shared  it with a cup of tea, it was delicious.

Little Movers

Our favourite day of the month is when we have little movers and our little friends from Stanley nursery visit for a morning of dance and fun.

Little movers is an intergenerational programme which involves the sharing of skills, knowledge between residents and children.

We celebrated  Esther’s 97th birthday with chocolate cake and lots of cuddles.

Creative crafts

Our residents here at Bedewell love arts in all forms of styles, painting, salt dough, Paper Mache and drawing.

We have been super busy  making valentine decorations to display around the home.

Florence and Mavis made some lovely roses using their own hand prints which they will give to their families. We have been making cards and will be celebrating with romantic meals.
