Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Donna Brooks

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange.

I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities.

I'm bright and bubbly, so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able.

As I get to know the residents likes and dislikes, if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please pop in and see me.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Medical Detection Dogs

Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs. Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.

We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff.  It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.

Carol Service with children

We were visited by the beautiful children for a carol service and reindeer hunt. The children collected reindeers on their way from the school to our home and were rewarded with chocolates and reindeer dust home made by our residents.. Our residents sang along with the children and we enjoyed refreshments and of course lots of dancing and cuddles.

,

Christmas Party

We were entertained by the amazing Sam Naylor with a medley of Christmas songs. It was so nice to have so many families join in our festive celebrations and there was tinsel and dancing galore. We finished the day with party nibbles and treats.

Meeting the Reindeers

Across our homes we got into the Christmas spirit of things by joining a festive live virtual experience, led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets.

Our residents were thrilled to meet the charming furry friends and get up close and personal with the reindeers.

We certainly learnt some interesting facts about the animals and had a fantastic time.

Little movers

We were joined by little movers and Stanley nursery for an intergenerational afternoon of music , fun and exercise.

This always brings so much happiness to our residents and everyone is always full of smiles.

Helping our homeless

Our local charity Hebburn helps have chosen Bedewell for their gift sponsor this year. Our residents will receive gifts from the kind people of Hebburn. We wanted as a home to celebrate national kindness day with a collection for the homeless. We collected warm items , toiletries and sweet snacks to fill our gift bags.

Brenda and Anne had a trip up to Hebburn helps centre where we dropped off our gifts and we were shown around the centre.
