Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Donna Brooks

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange.

I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities.

I'm bright and bubbly, so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able.

As I get to know the residents likes and dislikes, if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please pop in and see me.

Life at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Clapping for Our Carers

We value each and every one of our staff at Bedewell Grange and all their dedication. We have created a rainbow out of hearts to show our appreciation for all key workers. We also join the rest of the country at 8pm every Thursday to clap all key workers and NHS staff who are working for us all at this difficult time. Our residents are being well looked after and are happy. Stay safe everyone!

Over the Rainbow

Residents of Bedewell Grange have been busy making colour hearts to create a rainbow , which they have displayed along their lounge window for anyone passing the home. Inside the home, we have created a colourful community board to display all well-wishes to the residents received from the community.

Mother’s Day Kindness

Bedewell grange is getting lots of love and support from the local community in our pen pal scheme. Children and their families in the Hebburn area have been popping in with letters and little gifts for our residents for mother’s day.

Jill Wright, Activities coordinator said “We are overwhelmed by the response of the local community. This is so important for our residents especially now as our residents cant receive visitors from their families due to us being on lock down. Thank you all so much and keep them coming!”

Turning Green

We celebrated St Patrick's Day in style! Everyone had lots of fun celebrating the Irish—it was a blast!

Clases de Espanol en Bedewell Grange

Every Thursday from 5pm to 6pm our residents are learning Spanish! Our activities coordinator Jill, lived in Spain for 18 years teaching English to children and she is fluent in Spanish! When our residents found this out, they asked Jill if she could teach them Spanish.

Jill explains: “Learning a language at any age is fun and is good for you, especially later on in life as  this help make new neurological pathways in the brain and helps improve memory. Each week our residents learn a bit about Spanish culture and key phrases in Spanish. We have tapas and a little sangria and we listen to Spanish music. Everyone is doing so well! We always have lots of fun and a giggle”.

By the Sea

We celebrated our residents’ artistic talents by holding an inauguration night on Thursday January 30th to launch our art exhibition.

Our ‘By the Sea’ exhibition shows our residents' original watercolour paintings and textile pieces. There are over 40 pieces of work in the collection. Residents have been working on their pieces of art for several months now. The exhibition was inspired by their fond childhood memories at the seaside.

Staff, residents, their families, and members of the local community enjoyed our ‘By the Sea' exhibition. Refreshments and snacks were prepared by our hospitality team!
