Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Donna Brooks

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange.

I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities.

I'm bright and bubbly, so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able.

As I get to know the residents likes and dislikes, if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please pop in and see me.

Life at Bedewell Grange Care Home

World Kindness Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Bedewell Grange care home in Hebburn had a great time spreading the love on World Kindness Day, which was celebrated on 13th November 2019.

Bedewell Grange residents' committee decided they wanted to show their kindness and appreciation to fellow residents and staff working at Bedewell grange by preparing a surprise for them. Residents prepared flowers and thank you cards for all of the staff for their hard work and dedication. Being nice and helping others makes for a much more pleasant environment, no matter where you are and, remember, it doesn’t cost a thing!

Halloween Fun

The good witches and wizards of Bedewell Grange had a frightfully good time during the week leading up to Halloween, from pumpkin carving, witches hat making,  to  making spooky decorations and scary  chocolate apple  and  biscuits!

We even had a Halloween disco with entertainer  we had visits from trick or treaters!

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Macmillan Coffee Morning was an amazing success, bringing our residents, their families and staff together to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and our residents' fund.

With the kind donations from residents’ families and staff, our ‘in-house’ hairdresser, Tracy Russell, was able to create some stunning prizes, which were raffled during the coffee morning. 16 amazing prizes were won and £804.52 was raised from raffle tickets and cake sales. This amount will be split between Macmillan and our home.

Thank you to the staff who volunteered their time to help make sure the day was a success for everyone!

HUG Initiative for Mental Health

Staff and residents at Bedewell Grange care home, have started their own H.U.G. indicative for World Mental Health Day on Thursday 10th October, a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.

An initiative that began at the home, staff, residents, families, and visitors were invited to check in on the mental health of each other, asking:
How are you?
U know you can talk to me.
Give time to someone and give them a hug.

The H.U.G. event took place during 2pm and 2.15pm on the day. The hospitality team provided a sweet and savoury spread for guests to encourage the communication in a comfortable and welcoming setting.

Birthday Celebrations

We love to make our residents feel special and valued, especially on their birthdays, and Fred recently turned 95 years young!

He served in the army during the Second World War in the artillery regiment as part of the reconnaissance team.

We decided to organise a birthday surprise. We ordered him an Armed Forces Veteran Badge and invited Daniel, head of the local Army Cadets, to present it to him.

Happy birthday, Fred!

Intergenerational Club

Intergenerational Club

Bedewell Grange recently opened its doors for their first intergenerational club. This new innovative scheme is to be held every Friday from 2.00 pm – 3.00 pm and is open to residents, relatives and families of Bedewell Grange.

It was a wonderful afternoon of sing – along, listening of the story of the Gruffalo and crafts. The club is open to members of the community and great for ages 0 to 99!

The inaugural meeting welcomed groups of mums, dads with their young families who all live locally as well as carers with young children. The home has lots of things planned from story time, arts and crafts, cookery and sing along. They will even be learning a bit of Spanish!

There will be a nominal charge of £2.50 per child to cover the cost of craft materials and ingredients and any extra money made will go to the homes residents’ fund to support future activities and events.
