Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Shelbie Taylor
Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.
I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2013, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!
Myself, Leoni and Kelly have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.
We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Life at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home
Residents remember 75th anniversary of VJ Day
Boroughbridge Manor celebrated VJ Day, with an afternoon of crafts and delicious afternoon tea to commemorate 75 years since the end of Victory in Japan.
Michelle Keep General Manager, said: “Many of our residents have very clear memories of the Second World War and Victory in Japan, and reminisced about their experiences, so it’s a privilege to remember and celebrate with them.
We had a lovely day, and we are making sure extra effort is focused on creating an enjoyable environment for all of our residents, whilst ensuring that the group activities are smaller, adhering to social distancing advice.”
Resident celebrates 102nd Birthday!
Celebrations have been in full swing at Boroughbridge Manor, as one of its residents celebrated her 102nd birthday in style. Mary Findlay was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents. With social distancing guidelines in place, Mary was able to see her family through the conservatory doors and was very happy to see them. They all celebrated with smiles and lots of laughter. The birthday girl, Mary and other residents enjoyed a special home-made birthday cake made by the home’s chef.
Mary is a lively, happy lady who deserves this celebration. She thoroughly enjoyed her day and was very happy to have received so many cards!! She didn’t know what to do with them all. We have the most generous colleagues, community and friends and would like to say a massive thank you to all that helped Mary celebrate her day in style. Mary has received a whopping 102 Birthday cards - You are all amazing and we seriously can’t thank you all enough!
Residents Show Creative Side
Residents from Boroughbridge recently showed off their creative sides as the held their popular arts and crafts session in the sun this week. Throughout the day residents created lots of art that were spread throughout the home and on the windows to show their thanks and support for their local community.
Joyce, resident at the home really loved the choices of colours and said, “Spring is on its way and I love to be creative.” Along with staff, residents enjoy a walk around the home grounds to take in the spring sunshine as ways of inspiration, saying, “It was wonderful to feel the sun on my face!”
Shelbie Taylor, activities coordinator said, “It’s wonderful to see such happy faces throughout the home.”
Flower Arranging Session
Residents of Boroughbridge enjoyed an afternoon of flower arranging to help decorate their home with springtime blooms. Everyone enjoyed assorting the flowers to create beautiful arrangements in various vases while having a catch-up over a cup of tea.
Shelbie Taylor, activities coordinator said: “Everyone really enjoyed the flower arranging activity. Our home looks and smells even more lovely now the beautiful blooms are on display.
Residents Take Advantage of the Sunshine
Residents took advantage of the sunny weather to enjoy the great outdoors and sit in the homes beautiful garden. Many of the ladies donned their summer hats to protect themselves and we able to sit back and enjoy a refreshing ice lolly as they chatted together.
It is important that residents are able to take advantage of the secure gardens as it significantly increases in levels of physical and mental wellbeing for everyone.
Shelbie Taylor, activities coordinator, said: “At Boroughbridge, we are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities for residents and, as so many have a keen interest in nature and wildlife, we thought it was a great opportunity to sit outside and see what we could spot from our own space”
The residents had a wonderful day, and you could see from their reactions just how engaged we shall definitely look forward to sitting out here again.
Residents Spoilt on Mothering Sunday
The ladies of Boroughbridge celebrated Mother’s Day in style as they were treated to flowers, cards and small gifts seen everywhere and residents enjoyed FaceTime, skype and telephone calls from their children. We had a good old sing song to lift everyone’s spirits during the day and plenty of chatting about the old times when the children were young.
The team and residents shared stories and made it a day to remember.
