Activities at Brookfield Care Home

Our Activities coordinator dedicates her time on getting feedback from our residents of what they like to do. We have introduced paper mornings which involves group discussions and an active mind, and we also have a variety of entertainers that come in on a weekly basis. We hold a residents quiz once a week as it is one of our more popular activities, we now call it the Big Quiz due to its popularity.

It is important that we involve the community and family in many of our activities. We have the local rugby club heritage centre coming in once a week to do Bocci (indoor bowls) and seated exercise. We also hold cheese and wine evenings for family and residents which are very popular. Here at Brookfield we pride ourselves on the fabulous bond our activity coordinator has with all our residents as they are as happy to see her each morning as she is to see her friends.

Our Sanctuary

We love our regular and wonderful visits to The Sanctuary Café in Lymm.  The cafe was established to provide a Christian Café, bookshop and events centre in the village for the community. We were particularly inspired to learn that aspects of the Café is staffed by dedicated volunteers, largely from local churches. The Coffee is really amazing & we will return regularly!

We also engaged with a mums n tots group at the Cafe this week - "Kingdom Kids"! We all enjoyed joining in singing with the delightful children and collectively agreed it was a beautiful experience.

Home present cheque to local charity

Brookfield care home in Lymm, Cheshire recently presented Chief Officer, Heather Heathfield-Porter with a cheque for £500.00 to boost funds at the Creative Living Centre. The grant had been awarded by Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, a charity that helps older people and adults with a disability or mental health problems across England, Scotland and Wales by offering grants to help people connect or re-connect with others in their local community.

Floral demonstration

Our homes had a lovely time joining Sue and Nicole from Ferndown Florist for an intriguing flower arrangement workshop in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful virtual demonstration and got inspired to create their own flower posies for our Jubilee displays.  Our home will be specially decorated for the upcoming festivities. Stay tuned.

Residents enjoy pub lunch

Residents at Brookfield enjoy their regular outings on the homes minibus, this week they enjoyed a refreshing pit-stop at local country pub, the Barn Owl where they took their window seats to take in the scenic views and watch the canal boats as they tucked into traditional pub fayre. Everyone enjoyed their meals and are looking forward to the next trip out.

Jubilee celebrations

We marked the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style with fantastic activities and royal parties.

In recognition of the special occasion, we decorated our home with bunting, beautiful flower displays and themed royal items, including flags and printed photos of the Queen through the years and iconic royal landmarks, like Windsor Castle.

During the Jubilee weekend, our residents enjoyed a variety of sensory sessions and fun-filled activities made their own crowns; watched the national celebrations on the TV; enjoyed refreshing royal drinks with strawberries and Pimms with family and friends.
