Activities at Camellia House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Linda Wilkie
I have worked in this home for nearly 30 years, so it is very much part of my life. I started as a part-time Domestic when my children were small and, as time has gone by, I have become a Senior Carer and the Activities Coordinator.
I have NAPA and OOMPH qualifications, as well as an NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care.
I am very passionate about my role, as it is very important to us as a team that every individual is able to live the life they wish, feeling fulfilled in their mind, body and soul, maintaining past hobbies, yet have the opportunity to try new experiences.
I have built up a very good rapport with our team, our residents, family and friends, and I have built many links with the local community, which all help the residents get the most out of life at Camellia House.
I enjoy every day; the smiles on the faces I see are reward for doing a job I love.

Life at Camellia House Care Home
Talk Like a Pirate Day
Residents at Camellia House recently celebrated 'Talk Like a Pirate Day' with pirate-themed activities.
We enjoy providing a variety of different activities for our residents and this event brought lots of laughter, as well as evoking many memories of times by the sea.
In these unprecedented times, ensuring residents feel engaged and connected within our local community is more important than ever. We provide a wide range of physical, mental and spiritual activities at Camellia House as part of the life enrichment programme for residents, and this one was very popular! We have also adapted ways to keep residents active, whilst ensuring that the group activities are smaller, adhering to social distancing advice.
Afternoon at the Proms
We had a lovely afternoon sipping champers and singing very loudly to all the classic songs like 'Land of Hope and Glory'. Head Chef, Trudie, made Victoria sponge and tea bread, as well as doughnuts for a splendid afternoon tea.
Friendship Day
To celebrate International Friendship Day, we arranged a variety of activities, from poetry and games about friendship to reminiscence of friends old and new.
Residents shared cards on friendship and it was a brilliant way of offering the hand of friendship to all at Camellia, and introduced some residents to different groups of people that they may not have mixed with beforehand.
Musical Joy
A garden visit today was made all the brighter by a loved one bringing along his guitar .
He played a selection of songs that he and his mother, a resident, used to play together. He then played some beautiful Spanish Flamenco music that we could all hear through the windows.
Miles of Smiles
Camellia House had a blast celebrating Friendship Day on 30th July ,reminiscing about friends old and new, engaging in a relaxation session, reading poetry and doing puzzles about friendship and sharing cards to thank our friends.
There were smiles all round, as staff, residents and family members were reminded of the importance of friends and how they can enrich your life.
Friendship Day is celebrated in many countries across the globe and is a special occasion that encourages people to celebrate their friendships – old and new – by spending time with their friends and family. Traditions vary between cultures, but they generally include the exchange of friendship bands, cards and other gifts to mark the day.
Camellia House Butterfly Watch
As we continue our Butterfly Watch , our residents have been very excited to spot a Jersey Tiger Butterfly which is quite rare in this area and even more excited that we managed to get a photograph of it .
Residents are regularly going on Butterfly Watch which encourages mobility and getting out into the fresh air , lifts the mood and encourages interaction with others as well as purpose.
