Activities at Camellia House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Linda Wilkie

Activities Coordinator

I have worked in this home for nearly 30 years, so it is very much part of my life. I started as a part-time Domestic when my children were small and, as time has gone by, I have become a Senior Carer and the Activities Coordinator.

I have NAPA and OOMPH qualifications, as well as an NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care.

I am very passionate about my role, as it is very important to us as a team that every individual is able to live the life they wish, feeling fulfilled in their mind, body and soul, maintaining past hobbies, yet have the opportunity to try new experiences.

I have built up a very good rapport with our team, our residents, family and friends, and I have built many links with the local community, which all help the residents get the most out of life at Camellia House.

I enjoy every day; the smiles on the faces I see are reward for doing a job I love.

Life at Camellia House Care Home

Butterfly Counting

We engaged in the butterfly count, spotting many butterflies in the garden. Here is Rita Switzer, aged 102, who joined in.

Nature Watch

We had a day devoted to animals and our love for them. Residents have been tending the garden to encourage the wildlife. They have also planted sunflowers in the courtyard.

Father's Day

Resident, Bernard, can be seen above showing off his brand new Father's Day t-shirt.

Afternoon Tea

Residents decided they would like an afternoon tea to celebrate our Monarch‘s official birthday.

Chef, Dan, had had a chat with the residents about what would be a cake fit for the Queen, and by an overwhelming majority, his delicate mousse and jam-filled sponge was chosen.

The residents made their own cupcakes, decorated by hand with the Union Jack. All that was needed was a few cucumber sandwiches to compliment the tuna ones, and to decorate the dining room.

It seemed only fitting that our two eldest residents ,who are 101(nearly 102), should cut the cake, which they took much pleasure in doing.

Everyone that came had a wonderful time, and those residents that couldn’t make it were served in their rooms.

Feeding the Birds

Resident, Pete, cleared an area in the garden so we could start creating a wildlife garden, and this is our progress so far!

We have made bird feeders from pine cones (kindly supplied by our chef Trudy) covered in lard, cereals, nuts, seeds and fruit, as well as putting up a bird box and a bug house.

Everyone played a part, from mixing, holding or hanging them up, and the residents are very proud of this area in our garden and are keen to get to the next stage by planting wild flowers.

Hands of Friendship

We have all seen the value of friendship during the lockdown and we have made this tree out of handprints of the team and our residents to show how much we all mean to each other.
