Activities at Canmore Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are committed to organising a variety of events as well as offering tailored programmes to stimulate residents both mentally and physically. There are regular outings in the minibus to local places of interest, such as trips to the beach for ice cream, pub visits for a pint, and regular trips to Dobbies for tea and cakes. Georgie Girl, an old English sheep dog, also stops by the home on regular basis for pet therapy. Musical entertainment is a big hit with residents as well, so we book fan favourites to come and play at the home each month. At Canmore, relatives are always encouraged to join in on the fun too.

Life at Canmore Lodge Care Home

Floristry masterclass

Staff and residents at Canmore Lodge were treated to an interactive virtual floristry masterclass courtesy of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski, from Blooming Haus.

Blooming Haus started with a small pop-up shop in Chelsea.  They have since blossomed spectacularly on to the floristry scene as ‘floral engineers’, carving themselves an outstanding reputation as one of the UK’s most innovative floral design studios.

Residents enjoy spot of gardening

Residents at Canmore Lodge in Dunfermline have been busy planting the nursery flowers into the raised beds. We are excited to see how they grow over springtime.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Canmore Lodge care home in Dunfermline were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.

National Vegetarian Week

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Canmore Lodge care home in Dunfermline were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo.  Much to residents’ delight, Strachan House head chef had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

Mother's Day Joy

Residents at Barchester Healthcare’s Canmore Lodge care home, in Dunfermline, celebrated Mother’s Day with a welcome return to indoor visiting. The home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers for the occasion.

For residents at Canmore Lodge care home the long awaited reunion with one family member has become a reality, as two named visitors are separately  now allowed to visit each resident in their bedroom, just in time for Mother’s Day.

There has been much anticipation of this moment by families and residents alike.  Guidance was issued by the Government on March 4 and Barchester Healthcare, who run Canmore Lodge care home, is proceeding with a safe and cautious approach to visiting. Strict protocols are in place with all visitors required to have a negative Lateral Flow Device test result before being allowed into the home, and infection control measures and social distancing in place for every visit, with hand holding allowed but not recommended.

Emotional reunions

It's been a memorable day for everyone at Canmore Care Home, as we are now able to welcome indoor designated visitors into the home, with Public Health guidelines and PPE protocols still in place.

We have captured these emotional reunions, where everyone was overjoyed of happiness. It was a wonderful moment, accompanied with smiles and laughter.
