Activities at Canmore Lodge Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators are committed to organising a variety of events as well as offering tailored programmes to stimulate residents both mentally and physically. There are regular outings in the minibus to local places of interest, such as trips to the beach for ice cream, pub visits for a pint, and regular trips to Dobbies for tea and cakes. Georgie Girl, an old English sheep dog, also stops by the home on regular basis for pet therapy. Musical entertainment is a big hit with residents as well, so we book fan favourites to come and play at the home each month. At Canmore, relatives are always encouraged to join in on the fun too.

Life at Canmore Lodge Care Home
Residents enjoy jolly trolley
Residents have enjoyed choosing their old favourites from the sweet shop brought to them by our very own Jolly Trolley.
The Jolly Trolley provides our residents with stimulation and is interactive. It incorporates sensory lights and vision that brings the benifits of music, song, reminiscence and fun. It is fully portable which allows activities to be carried out anywhere in the home.
Home receive 2nd vaccine
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Canmore Lodge care home are delighted to have received both doses of their Covid-19 vaccinations at the home after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.
Senior General Manager, Jane Aitken said: “We’ve all been through such a difficult time and this feels like such a big step on the way to getting back to some normality. I am so proud of the team and how they have worked together and continue to do so and we are all so grateful to be prioritised to receive the vaccine first. Now that we’ve had both doses, we can start to work towards getting life in the home back to a new normal, but we know there is a lot of work to do in order to get there.”
Long Service recognised
We are delighted as Cara Wall, Staff Nurse, has received a prestigious 15 year service award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 15 years. Cara started at Canmore Lodge in 2006 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.
Jane Aitken, Senior General Manager, said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 15 years of loyal service with Cara. She has demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Canmore Lodge when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with Cara!”
A whole new world of magic
Canmore Lodge Care Home in Fife has recently brought a bit of magic to residents by providing a new ‘Magic Table 360 and the Happiness Programme’ as a way to improve residents’ quality of life.
Designed and manufactured in the UK, the Magic Table 360 uses interactive games to connect residents with staff and with each other, and research shows it improves the wellbeing of people living with dementia. Using interactive light projections, the Magic Table 360, which can be played independently or in a group, stimulates movement by inviting participants to take part in all sorts of different fun activities such as popping bubbles, playing the piano, colouring in pictures, sweeping leaves or interacting playfully with fish. Games are rich in colour, movement and detail, and allow people of all ages to play in a safe and comfortable environment.
The Magic Table 360 is portable so it can be used wherever residents feel most comfortable, it can be projected onto the floor, ceiling, walls, a whiteboard or even the bed. The Happiness Programme allows for a range of games that change seasonally and have country-specific versions covering 14 different categories, so there will always be something new for residents to try.
Home receive vaccinations
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Canmore Lodge care home, in Dunfermline, were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at Fife Immunisation Hub, which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.
Senior General Manager, Jane Aitken said: “Last year was a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel. Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”
Burns capers at Canmore Lodge
Canmore Lodge care home in prepared a traditional Burns Night Supper to the tune of bagpipes and the fun continued well into the wee small hours.
Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.
General Manager, Jane Aitken, thought it was a perfect occasion to celebrate an evening steeped in age-old tradition as well as getting in a spot of reading a selection of Burns’ poems and sharing stories of past Burns celebrations.
