Activities at Canmore Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are committed to organising a variety of events as well as offering tailored programmes to stimulate residents both mentally and physically. There are regular outings in the minibus to local places of interest, such as trips to the beach for ice cream, pub visits for a pint, and regular trips to Dobbies for tea and cakes. Georgie Girl, an old English sheep dog, also stops by the home on regular basis for pet therapy. Musical entertainment is a big hit with residents as well, so we book fan favourites to come and play at the home each month. At Canmore, relatives are always encouraged to join in on the fun too.

Life at Canmore Lodge Care Home

Residents get interactive

Residents of Canmore Lodge have escaped the August drizzle with a fun-filled interactive afternoon with their new smart board.

Garden family reunions

For some residents at Canmore Lodge the long awaited reunion with family and friends became a reality recently, as garden visits have now been allowed to commence at the home.

There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment behind the scenes at Barchester Healthcare, who run Canmore Lodge. Social distancing was still in place, and homes that are able to take part must have a large accessible garden.

It was welcome news to so many residents, family, and friends, who were kept apart for so long following strict government guidance. Residents and their loved ones finally got together in the home garden, and were able to see each other in person. The garden was full of joy and chatter.

Birthday celebrations for Flora

Flora Johnson, Resident at Canmore Lodge celebrated her 90th birthday in June surrounded by fellow Residents and members of the care team.

On her special day, Flora received virtual messages from her loved ones wishing her a happy birthday. Canmore Lodge surprised Flora with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a card signed by everyone at the home and family sent a 90th birthday balloon to the birthday girl.

Flora commented: “What a lovely surprise, I have had the best birthday ever!”   General Manager, Jane Aitken said “It was a pleasure to be part of Flora’s special day, on behalf of everyone at Canmore Lodge I would like to wish Flora a very happy birthday.”

Home launches book club

Residents of Canmore Lodge have joined forces to create their own book club to share their love of words and who enjoy reading. The chosen book is discussed and chat follows over a cup of tea and some nibbles.  The book club meet bi-weekly.

Reading aloud is an activity that most people are familiar with. Reading storybooks to children and grandchildren is a time for bonding, warmth and love and our Residents adults enjoy it too.

We are a top 20 care home!

Canmore Lodge has been named one of the top 20 recommended care homes in Scotland in the carehome.co.uk Top 20 Care Home Awards 2020.

The Top 20 Care Home Awards highlight the most recommended care homes in each region of the UK. The Awards are based on over 160,000 reviews received by carehome.co.uk from residents, their family, and friends, between March 2019 and February 2020.

Well done to everyone who has made this possible!

Community Spirit Brings Local Delivery

Residents and colleagues at Canmore Lodge were delighted to answer the door to accept a special delivery from their local Asda store with a delivery of sweet treats. The boxes were filled with delicious cakes with a variety of toppings for everyone to enjoy and satisfy their sweet cravings and in recognition of the homes hard working, dedicated team supporting Residents during this difficult period.

On behalf of Canmore Lodge, residents and colleagues would like to pass on their gratitude for being considered at this time of uncertainty and hope everyone stays safe and well.  Such a nice gesture thinking of us care homes and everyone joining forces to keep the community spirit together!
