Activities at The Cedars Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Angela Cawsey

Activities Coordinator

My name is Angela Cawsey and I am 60 years young.  I have lived locally to Cedars since 2011, firstly in Downton and more recently in Alderbury.  In the past I have worked with mature people in their homes, and adults with learning difficulties in a number of settings.   During lockdown I ran daily zoom sessions for wellbeing, including bingo and quizzes.

I enjoy spending time with people and helping them smile, whether on a one-to-one basis or in groups.  When my children were young I volunteered as a helper at Boys Brigade and St John’s Ambulance which was very rewarding.

Other jobs I have enjoyed include, selling computers, an IT and Management Trainer, HR and Business Manager and my personal favourite, being Grandma to 8 grandchildren.  I love music, craft, the outdoors and animals.

Life at The Cedars Care Home

Getting Creative

Residents at The Cedars wanted to create some beautiful with their left over wool, so we decided to make wool dolls and octopuses, which they could give to their grandchildren and great grandchildren. They did an amazing job!

Memory Garden

The residents at The Cedars are very proud of their memory garden, which we have been working on for the last four months, digging, planting flowers and creating artwork for. We are going to be making some bird boxes and sqirrel tables.

It is a beautiful area where we can go to reminisce, mediatate and enjoy watching the wildlife.

Getting Creative

Residents at The Cedars wanted to create something different for the children of Nomanlands Pre-School, so they decided to create something beautiful and colourful for their classroom. The elephants have packed their trunks and are on their travels to the school.

Showing Our Appreciation

The relatives of a resident at The Cedars created a thank you banner as a token of appreciation for all the carers, nurses and support staff at the home. Relatives also clapped for the staff as they swapped shifts each Thursday evening.

National Loneliness Week

Residents at the Cedars care home recently enjoyed giving back to the local community for National Loneliness week.

Residents at the home particularly liked helping people whom were isolated in their homes through this difficult time, engaging with the community allows them to carry on as normal and keeps spirits high.

We delivered afternoon tea to our surrounding areas which included Nomansland, Hampworth, Bramshaw and Braishfield.

We would like to say a special Thank you to Donna Milne and Hazel Price who run the social contact groups in their areas for their help in making the afternoon happen.

National Beer Day

We celebrated National Beer Day at the Cedars with a barbecue in our beautiful gardens with music and an array of ales (and wine for our lovely ladies). Everyone had a great time!
