Activities at The Cedars Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Angela Cawsey
My name is Angela Cawsey and I am 60 years young. I have lived locally to Cedars since 2011, firstly in Downton and more recently in Alderbury. In the past I have worked with mature people in their homes, and adults with learning difficulties in a number of settings. During lockdown I ran daily zoom sessions for wellbeing, including bingo and quizzes.
I enjoy spending time with people and helping them smile, whether on a one-to-one basis or in groups. When my children were young I volunteered as a helper at Boys Brigade and St John’s Ambulance which was very rewarding.
Other jobs I have enjoyed include, selling computers, an IT and Management Trainer, HR and Business Manager and my personal favourite, being Grandma to 8 grandchildren. I love music, craft, the outdoors and animals.

Life at The Cedars Care Home
Grateful Staff
Cedars would like to give a massive thank you to the ladies in the local community for taking the time and effort to create the staff at Cedars beautiful tote bags and face masks. This enables us to put our uniforms into our colourful tote bags to transport home safely. These bags then go straight into the washing machine. The local ladies have said that it has been a team effort, with support from Blueberry London and Gemma Wilks, and our main team of fabulous sewers, Loewis, Vicky, 5 year old Millie ,and Becky Steel.
Pen Pals
Our residents have teamed up with children in the local community to become pen pals during the current coronavirus situation. We feel it would be lovely to go back to the old way of communication by letter writing.
This gives children and our residents the chance to discuss their daily activities and to share interesting stories with new friends.
We hope to build long lasting friendships that will continue to flourish in the future.
Happy Days
Following our recent story on our pen pal scheme with the children in the local community, we would like to say a huge thank you to all the children that have sent letters & drawings and gifts to our lovely residents. They have been overwhelmed and are extremely grateful. You have put a smile on all their faces so thank you very much.
Please see a picture of our joyful resident receiving her letter and gifts from a kind local child.
Animals from Around the World
Cedars residents had a wonderful afternoon spent with an array of animals from Creature Teachers. This enabled our residents to see, touch, and learn about these beautiful creatures. The homes favourite is Echo a stunning Barn Owl. Creature Teachers visit our home every two months each time showing different animals and creatures.
Our residents have had the privilege to meet Pricilla an albino hedgehog, snakes, ferrets, rabbits and many more spectacular creatures. Creature teachers are a favourite with residents, families and staff.
Creative Mind Session
Creative Minds is a social enterprise and a community of passionate artists that deliver fun and therapeutic art sessions to care homes, learning disability services, day centers and more across the country. We work closely with them and hold two sessions a month.
On the 13th February, creative minds held a Valentines arts & crafts session. In that session, we made love heart decorations to hang in there rooms they were very proud of their work. Similarly, our residents made Valentine’s Day cards to give to their loved ones.
Our residents always have fun, interact and engage. Art sessions have been proven to be beneficial for the mind, body and soul. Creative Minds use a range of different equipment’s and techniques which stimulate touch, sight and sound as they have relaxing music playing in the background. We have found these activities rewarding for our residents living with dementia.
