Activities at Chester Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinator is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Our aim is to make sure that our residents feel they had something to look forward to each day. We have a varied life enrichment programme, both in the home and in the community, and we always ask if there is anything different that residents would like to do. Residents and families approach our Activities Coordinator and comment on how much they enjoy what we do, so that we can continue to develop our programme to the benefit of our residents.

Lauren Corbett

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Lauren and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Chester Court.  I joined the team in December 2020 and bring a wealth of enthusiasm to the role. I have just graduated from university in July 2020 and have previously completed work experience at another Barchester home. During this work experience I discovered how meaningful and important activities are for residents and how they can help enhance resident’s lives. Therefore, I decided to become an activities coordinator myself as I feel this is such a rewarding role.

I love working with our Residents here at the home and getting to know them and their families so that I can deliver and support in meaningful activities, keeping them socially stimulated and active as part of our extensive life enrichment calendar. The lifestyle and continued community links are also important.

Life at Chester Court Care Home

Wedding belles finally chime

Gary, a resident at Chester Court care home in Bedlington, was delighted to finally be able to see his daughter, Becca, walk down the aisle to marry her childhood sweetheart, Ryan. Becca and Ryan have been together for 12 years, they met when they were just 15 years old. The wedding had to be postponed twice due to Covid restrictions and then tragedy struck when the roof of the original venue, Newton Hall, blew off in bad weather and a new one had to be found at very short notice. So when the ceremony finally took place at As You Like it in Jesmond it was fourth time lucky! Gary has not been well over the last couple of years and concerns over Covid meant he was not sure he would be able to go the wedding and see Becca get married, so it was a huge relief all round when the stars finally aligned and he was able to attend. Becca said: “It was so lovely to have my dad at the wedding and see him enjoy himself with his friends, especially after the last couple of years. Everyone is so pleased with my dad’s progress since he has moved into Chester Court. I am really pleased that he was nominated the home’s Resident Ambassador as it keeps him busy and encourages him to be sociable.” Gary commented: “Becca looked absolutely stunning, her dress was beautiful. I am so glad I was able to see her get married, I had an amazing time!

Gingerbread House Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Chester Court care home in Bedlington love any excuse to get creative so when they found out it was Gingerbread House Day on December 12, they didn’t need any persuading to get cracking!

The staff and residents got busy decorating with icing, buttercream, marshmallows, sprinkles, jelly beans and edible glitter to make some of the glitziest gingerbread houses in town.

General Manager, Sarah, said: “We were all so excited when we found out there was a Gingerbread House Day, what a fantastic excuse to spend the day making gorgeous festive decorations.  The best thing about it is that, now that we have judged which gingerbread house we like best, we get to eat them all – delicious!”
