Activities at Chester Court Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinator is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Our aim is to make sure that our residents feel they had something to look forward to each day. We have a varied life enrichment programme, both in the home and in the community, and we always ask if there is anything different that residents would like to do. Residents and families approach our Activities Coordinator and comment on how much they enjoy what we do, so that we can continue to develop our programme to the benefit of our residents.
Lauren Corbett
Hi, my name is Lauren and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Chester Court. I joined the team in December 2020 and bring a wealth of enthusiasm to the role. I have just graduated from university in July 2020 and have previously completed work experience at another Barchester home. During this work experience I discovered how meaningful and important activities are for residents and how they can help enhance resident’s lives. Therefore, I decided to become an activities coordinator myself as I feel this is such a rewarding role.
I love working with our Residents here at the home and getting to know them and their families so that I can deliver and support in meaningful activities, keeping them socially stimulated and active as part of our extensive life enrichment calendar. The lifestyle and continued community links are also important.

Life at Chester Court Care Home
Card making
Residents at Chester Court enjoy their regular arts and crafts sessions and during a recent session wanted to create a selection of cards including a ‘Get well’ cards for a member of the homes care team, to get well soon. There was a lot of fun with the sticking, gluing and glitter as they made their designs. As they finished everyone signed the card get well card, a lovely gesture from everyone at the home and one which will be appreciated. Arts and crafts in just one of the homes many activities planned as part of their life enrichment programme.
International Flower Day
Residents at Chester Court celebrated International Flower day on 19/01/21. Flower themed word searches were completed in the morning followed by flower arranging in the afternoon. We used a variety of flowers such as, chrysanthemums, tulips and roses. Overall we had a fully enjoyable day.
Keeping residents connected
Residents are overjoyed at Chester Court care home in Bedlington, as Barchester Healthcare has implemented a visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones for the autumn and winter seasons in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer for those able for many months.
Balancing resident wellbeing and safety is at the forefront of Barchester Healthcare’s thinking and they understand how important it is for residents and their family and friends to be able to spend time together in the safest way possible.
There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment by Barchester Healthcare, who run Chester Court care home. It was welcome news for their residents and family and friends as we enter the colder season meaning catch-ups can continue to take place, instead of, or in addition to, outdoor visiting already offered for those able.
Residents enjoy festive celebrations
Barchester’s Chester Court have been in the festive spirit throughout the month enjoying live streamed events, festive games and hosting a Christmas party and much more as part of the homes life enrichment. Residents have also enjoyed a feast of festive foods especially prepared by the homes hospitality team.
Remembrance Sunday
Residents at Chester Court care home, in Bedlington recently enjoyed a day of remembrance in honour of the fallen. The focal point of the day was a remembrance wall created by residents and staff and where they wrote a sentiment to a loved one or just to thank the fallen heroes for their sacrifice.
Residents made the poppies for the delay as part of their life enrichment activities, they also enjoyed games and a remembrance tea where they shared stories of loved ones who had served for their country.
The activities team at Chester Court supported the residents at the home by dressing up as popular war time songs and music played in the background.
Trick or treat fun for Residents
Residents at Chester Court were entertained to spooky treats and bewitching fun as staff and resident’s donned fancy dress as part of the homes Halloween celebrations, before playing a special Halloween themed game of bingo and many more before settling back to enjoy a buffest especially prepared by the homes hospitality team.
