Activities at Chester Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinator is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Our aim is to make sure that our residents feel they had something to look forward to each day. We have a varied life enrichment programme, both in the home and in the community, and we always ask if there is anything different that residents would like to do. Residents and families approach our Activities Coordinator and comment on how much they enjoy what we do, so that we can continue to develop our programme to the benefit of our residents.

Lauren Corbett

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Lauren and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Chester Court.  I joined the team in December 2020 and bring a wealth of enthusiasm to the role. I have just graduated from university in July 2020 and have previously completed work experience at another Barchester home. During this work experience I discovered how meaningful and important activities are for residents and how they can help enhance resident’s lives. Therefore, I decided to become an activities coordinator myself as I feel this is such a rewarding role.

I love working with our Residents here at the home and getting to know them and their families so that I can deliver and support in meaningful activities, keeping them socially stimulated and active as part of our extensive life enrichment calendar. The lifestyle and continued community links are also important.

Life at Chester Court Care Home

Love is in the Air at Chester Court

Chester Court was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day. Staff, residents and guests started their celebration of love with a family and friends and a themed afternoon with tasty homemade delicious treats, as they shared all things love with each other.

Residents exchanged cards, fresh blooms and small gifts with their loved ones, before an afternoon of songs and conversations.

General Manager, Julie Bond, said: “This week has shown us all that you are never too old for love. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun for the individuals that live here and their guests and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”

Residents Enjoy Live Music Performance

Residents and guests at Chester Court care home enjoyed an afternoon of grins with a live music performance that took place at the home. Their local entertainer performed a selection of classic hits including Neil Diamonds hit ‘Sweet Caroline’,

Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along as she performed their finale song Sitting on the dock of the bay by Ottis Reading. The hospitality team at the home also provided a spread of sweet and savoury treats for guests to enjoy during the show.

Acting Senior General Manager, Julie Bond said, “Our residents and guests had a wonderful day singing along with the wonderful performers. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment at [name of home] as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this was one of our favourites!”

One resident said “I haven’t heard some of these songs in many years. The classics never go out of style!”

Also on the day, local community group, Little Movers, stopped by, lead by Fiona Newman, who hosted an intergenerational session with residents and pre-school children from the community.

It was a really fun day!

Anniversary Celebrations

Resident, Ken, and his wife, Margaret, celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary here at Chester Court. They enjoyed a special lunch date together in the home and were particularly impressed with the heart shaped cake that was prepared for them by our Chef, Graziella Mulas. Margaret had brought in her wedding album for everyone to admire.
