Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Jubilee celebrations fit for a Queen

Excitement has been running high at Cookridge Court in Leeds where residents and staff hosted a Garden Party for friends, family and the local community to come and attend.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a Queen.  Over the bank holiday weekend the home held a Garden Party, with a live performance form local singer Emma James and a BBQ which was cooked by Head Chef Sinead Ruddock.  The whole home came together to celebrate our longest reigning monarch and reminisce about what she means to each and every one of us.

Crystal Palace Chronicles

We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.

Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.

One fine day...

Residents and guests at Cookridge Court  care home in Leeds enjoyed a evening of fun, laughter and acting with a live show performance that took place at the home. North East Producers Ltd, performed a classic show called One Fine Day which included the famous songs, Knees up mother brown, pack up your troubles in your old kit bag & build me up buttercup.

Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along as the amazing actors performed their finale song build me up buttercup. The hospitality team at the home also provided a spread of sweet treats and beverages for guests and residents to enjoy during the show.

Today we celebrated the anniversary of the birth of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale, also known as International Nurses Day.  To mark the occasion we presented our Home Manager Karen, along with Gemma from our local district nursing team, a beautiful bouquet of flowers to say 'thank you' for all they do.

Every staff member at our home is going above and beyond, so a big thank you to you all!

Birthday celebrations in style

Today we celebrated our lovely resident, Myrna’s 80th birthday in style. Myrna’s family had kindly arranged an ice cream van to visit the home so everyone could have an ice cream with Myrna to celebrate.  Myrna was then serenade by the team who chorused Happy Birthday and was presented with a fabulous homemade cake, baked by chef Lindsay.
