Activities at Crabwall Hall Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Jacqui Cameron

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.

Resident celebrates milestone birthday

During the month of October resident, Nance Blease, celebrated her 100th Birthday. Sadly her family could not visit due to Welsh Corona Virus restrictions, but we still held a great party for her and the other residents here at Crabwall Hall.  Nance’s day started with lots of cards, flowers and other gifts arriving along with her telegram from the Queen.

Nance later joined other residents in the decorated dining room for her choice of a tea of chip shop delivered battered fish, chips and gravy. The lounge area that had also been decorated was then the venue for drinks, birthday cake, and music. The Activity team made a play list of Nance’s favourite welsh singers including Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Shakin’ Stevens and also the welsh national anthem. Nance enjoyed her day so much, she asked if she could do it all again the following day!

Freaky Fun and Ghoulish Games at Crabwall Hall

Normally for this time of year we have visiting children dressed in their Halloween finest. The residents at Crabwall Hall love to see them dressed up and give out sweets supplied by our activity team. This year, of course, is very different. As we could not have any visitors into the home we set up a Halloween ‘photo booth’ in our reception area and invited our residents to take part.

As you can see from the photo’s some had great fun dressing up in the head wear available…. Manager Kirsty Jones joined in too.

Also for Halloween we have held a pumpkin carving competition and children’s Halloween fancy dress competition. We also had a Halloween afternoon tea for residents with spooky treats and stories.

Excitement as winners announced!

Residents of Crabwall Hall were delighted to receive so many entries to their recent virtual cat and dog show and as the closing day arrived, Residents were excited to look  through the many photographs to be able to selected their winners.  Some residents simply were happy to join in by searching through the display on the homes lounge wall for their winner, whilst some chose from the photographs taken to their bedrooms so everyone was involved.

Residents,  Alan Davies and Pat Bradley choose their winners and 1st place went to Rosie a poodle cross, 2nd place went to Maya a beautiful husky puppy and 3rd place went to Poppy a labrador puppy owned by one of Barchester's Care Homes in Scotland.  The home would like to thank everyone who sent in their entries as it brought a smile to the residents faces and created many conversations about their own much loved pets they have owned.

Baking club

Residents from Crabwall Hall enjoyed an afternoon of baking, which took them back to their younger years.  Baking sessions are a popular group activity for the home and the activity had taste buds tingling as the aroma of freshly baked cupcakes wafted through the home.

Home raises funds for Macmillan

Staff and Residents at Crabwall Hall in Mollington held a charity coffee morning on 25th September to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Crabwall Hall’s coffee morning was a big success – they managed to raise £60.00 and, most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun doing it!

The British charity provides financial aid, specialist healthcare services, and all different kinds of support to those living with cancer. The purpose of the coffee morning is to sit down with your friends and family and virtually catch up with a nice cuppa for a good cause. The money raised will help Macmillan make sure no one has to face cancer alone.

World first aid day

To mark World First Aid Day this year we obtained some bandages and padding from our visiting District Nurses and invited our residents to have a go at bandaging each others arms!

One of our residents Sheila, was in the Red Cross during the war so the bandaging techniques soon came flooding back to her.

In the photos you can see Sheila Brown being bandaged by other resident Christine Fletcher, Pat Bradley is ‘supervising’ in the back ground. The three ladies really had fun with this different activity and there were plenty of laughs along the way!
