Activities at Crabwall Hall Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.

Life at Crabwall Hall Care Home

Baking club

Residents from Crabwall Hall enjoyed an afternoon of baking, which took them back to their younger years.  Baking sessions are a popular group activity for the home and the activity had taste buds tingling as the aroma of freshly baked cupcakes wafted through the home.

Home raises funds for Macmillan

Staff and Residents at Crabwall Hall in Mollington held a charity coffee morning on 25th September to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Crabwall Hall’s coffee morning was a big success – they managed to raise £60.00 and, most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun doing it!

The British charity provides financial aid, specialist healthcare services, and all different kinds of support to those living with cancer. The purpose of the coffee morning is to sit down with your friends and family and virtually catch up with a nice cuppa for a good cause. The money raised will help Macmillan make sure no one has to face cancer alone.

World first aid day

To mark World First Aid Day this year we obtained some bandages and padding from our visiting District Nurses and invited our residents to have a go at bandaging each others arms!

One of our residents Sheila, was in the Red Cross during the war so the bandaging techniques soon came flooding back to her.

In the photos you can see Sheila Brown being bandaged by other resident Christine Fletcher, Pat Bradley is ‘supervising’ in the back ground. The three ladies really had fun with this different activity and there were plenty of laughs along the way!

Residents enjoy musical bingo

Two of our popular activities here at Crabwall Hall are Bingo and anything musical. Our residents love to sing along to music and sometimes even get up to dance along too.

What better activity to offer then, than Musical Bingo!

A cd was played with over 80 tunes including ‘My old man said follow the van’, ‘You are my sunshine’, ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘The wedding march’ and the ladies attending had to match the songs to the titles on their sheets, by covering them with a cardboard disc.

The ladies sang along to every tune. Remembering the lyrics as well as the title. Singing to tunes you know is a very uplifting treat, and just what was needed for a Friday afternoon.

Home baking at it's best

Many of our residents have brought up families and that usually goes hand in hand with home baking. A small group were eager to don their aprons  for another go at baking cakes. This time we made cupcakes, using a sandwich toaster style machine made for the job. The ladies helped to cream the butter and sugar, break and whisk the eggs, sift the flour and beat the whole mixture until it was light and fluffy, or until their arms started to ache!!

Whilst the cakes were baking, we had a lovely chat about the baking they did at home. Many of them liked to bake biscuits and some had vague memories of helping their own mothers in the kitchen.

We also took the time to mix some icing sugar for the top. Once the cakes were baked, iced and cooled the ladies all enjoyed eating their cakes with a lovely hot cup of tea.

Pizza making

Pizza is a very popular food and residents really enjoy them too. This month they held a pizza making activity one afternoon, when a small group designed their very own Italian themed dinner.

Each resident was given a pizza base, tomato puree to smother onto it and a selection of toppings including red, green and yellow peppers, a choice of three different salamis and grated mozzarella cheese.

Each resident chopped up their own peppers then arranged them beautifully onto the base, finishing them off with salami and a sprinkle of cheese. The pizzas were them wrapped in cling film and given to the kitchen to be cooked later on for the residents evening meal.
