Activities at The Dales Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Kay Thompson

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales.  I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun!  Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!

Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.

I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Life at The Dales Care Home

Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival

For one of Dale's residents, Nita, is important to continue visiting her local church as she has been doing for the past years and it was no different during the recent Harvest Festival.

The trip was extra special, it was a wonderful opportunity for residents across the community to meet up and socialise.  There was truly a fabulous array showcasing everyone’s creative talents as part of the Harvest Festival.

Fun-filled Musical Exercise

Fun-filled Musical Exercise

Residents of the Dales hosted an afternoon of gentle armchair exercises to music. Residents were very enthusiastic throughout the session and commented on how great it was to laugh and smile whilst keeping fit. Everyone was rewarded for their efforts with healthy snacks and refreshments.

The Dales General Manager, Dawn Johnson said: “Seated exercise is such a great way to improve our Resident’s wellbeing, and it’s even better to see them having such a wonderful time doing it!”  Exercise therapy sessions are just one of the variety of regular activities Residents enjoy at the Dales.

Game, Set and Match

Game, Set and Match

Residents of the Dales recently enjoyed an afternoon playing balloon tennis. The residents met in the lounge on a sunny afternoon equipped with their rackets, ready for an energetic game of balloon tennis.

Not only is balloon tennis great fun, but the game also encourages residents to be active and get out of their seats to stretch and reach for the balloon. The residents became very competitive and enjoyed lots of laughs along the way. Everyone is looking forward to the next game!

Summer Fête

Summer Fête

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at The Dales to enjoy a summer fête that was held in the home’s grounds. The Dales, which is part of Dementia Friendly Skipton, raised £302 for the charity on the day in donations from visitors and participants.

The home hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including a tombola stall and a raffle, as well as stalls for bespoke jewellery, face painting, Body Shop at Home, massages, and a game of 'guess the weight of the cake'. There was also a live music from local musician Rebecca Penkett, who performed a selection of melodies on the harp and on the ukulele. The event was also attended by the personnel from the local fire brigade in their dementia-friendly fire engine.

Magic Table

Magic Table

The residents really enjoy using our new Tovertafel's Magic table, they have found it very stimulating and fun to use. It really has supported positive relationships with family members and friends. If anyone would like to come and have a look at our new addition to the home, please feel free to come and see it in action.
