Activities at The Dales Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Kay Thompson
Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales. I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun! Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!
Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.
I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Life at The Dales Care Home
Emergency Services Visit
The Dales in Skipton opened up their doors to welcome the emergency services personnel of their local area. As a way of saying thank you to the paramedics, nurses, police officers and other emergency services workers, who don’t always have time to go home or back to their workplace on their break, the team and residents of the Dales provides free food and drinks to the members of all emergency services.
Ladies of Dales Enjoy a Pamper
Each week, residents at the Dales care home enjoy a ‘pamper’ with Alison, our activities coordinator, where they have a manicure and hand massage, after a visit to our hairdressing salon.
Residents get to enjoy a pot of tea with some delicious home-made biscuits whilst relaxing music plays in the background – bliss! Dawn, the General Manager of the home, said: “It’s always nice to have a bit of a pamper. As you can see one of our ladies is enjoying the experience”.
The Magic Table
We are delighted to announce that we have just had a Magic Table installed, which is an interactive light projector, designed to support residents living with dementia by keeping them engaged through specialised games.
The light projections respond to hand and arm movement, allowing residents to stay stimulated and, most of all, have fun!
You can read more about it on this page.
May Day Celebrations
Residents had great fun watching stuff dance around a maypole in celebration of May Day.
Celebrating 10 Years
We awarded Senior Care Assistant, Zoe Mitchell, with a £250 voucher, flowers and chocolates in recognition of her 10th anniversary at Barchester. We are very proud of Zoe's dedication and loyalty!
Sensory Morning
Everyone enjoyed smelling lots of different herbs during our most recent sensory session.
