Activities at The Dales Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Kay Thompson

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales.  I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun!  Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!

Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.

I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Life at The Dales Care Home

Exhibition at The Dales Nursing Home

Exhibition at The Dales Nursing Home

During the past 12 months, we have been working with Pioneer Projects to bring art into our home. We had such good fun creating puppets, and had residents, families and staff joining in to create altered images. We also made porcelain trees and plaster of paris blocks. This was very therapeutic as we moulded clay and stamped into it.

The exhibition was a great success with relatives coming in to see all the art work and to have a coffee and a chat. It is definitely something we will do again.

Tim Clarke Entertains

Tim Clarke Entertains

It seems that The Dales is enjoying some culture at the moment as Tim Clarke came to entertain residents with his saxophone. He entertained us with classical favourites as well as a few modern tunes. The residents really enjoyed it and kept asking for more. Tim had them dancing, clapping and having fun - and that's what it's all about.

Pioneer Projects at The Dales

Pioneer Projects at The Dales

Pioneer Projects visited our home again. This time the residents were making collages, having loads of fun gluing and sticking whilst chatting and laughing with each other. After crafting, everyone involved joined in to tell a story that utilised the collages they had made. They went home with more bits of paper stuck to them than what had been glued on the collages.

Trawden String Quartet

Trawden String Quartet

We were well and truly spoiled when the Trawden String Quartet said that they would come and play for us. It was a real treat to hear classical music being played alongside modern music. They inspired us so much that one of our residents asked if they could recite a poem. This lady recited the whole of The Owl and The Pussycat absolutely perfectly; we were absolutely in awe as this was so unexpected and brilliantly done.

Puppet Making

Puppet Making

We have been asked to join a local project were professional artists come into the home and do art and craft projects with the residents. The first session that we under took was puppet making, we had lots of fun making collage puppets and telling stories. We will see what happens the next time the artists come to the home and the things we can create.
Ball Games at The Dales

Ball Games at The Dales

We have a giant football that we play games with. It's one that can't be missed as its bright pink and about 5 times bigger than a normal football. We have lots of fun and laughter when we throw it around and it bounces from person to person. Some times we will be singing songs and tell stories as the ball goes from person to person but its all good fun!
