Activities at The Dales Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Kay Thompson
Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales. I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun! Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!
Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.
I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Life at The Dales Care Home
Fruity Friday
In an effort to boost our health, we've introduced Fruity Friday, where staff and residents help to make fun and exciting recipes with unusual exotic fruits. Most recently, we made fruit kebabs and had lots of fun and laughter trying all the different varieties of fruit available. We also reminisced about the good ol' days, when we only saw oranges in our Christmas stockings and apples at Halloween.
Baking Afternoon
With the weather not being up to much this month, we decided to cheer ourselves up and bake some scones for afternoon tea. We caused quite a stir, with flour and raisins everywhere! They smelled delicious and were truly nutritious, especially with jam and cream!
Open Day at The Dales
We opened our doors to anyone and everyone to come and check out our home. We hosted a range of activities on the day to make sure that a good time was had by all.
The Queen's Birthday Bash
Here at The Dales, we had a party to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday. Out came the bunting and the party hats and our chef put on a spread fit for any Queen or King for that matter.
We had a sing along and a glass of fizz to toast Her Majesty and enjoyed a right royal knees up. Everyone seemed to love the festivities; there was lots of fun and laughter. The afternoon was concluded with a lovely buffet and a trifle in red, white & blue.
Exhibition at The Dales Nursing Home
During the past 12 months, we have been working with Pioneer Projects to bring art into our home. We had such good fun creating puppets, and had residents, families and staff joining in to create altered images. We also made porcelain trees and plaster of paris blocks. This was very therapeutic as we moulded clay and stamped into it.
The exhibition was a great success with relatives coming in to see all the art work and to have a coffee and a chat. It is definitely something we will do again.
Tim Clarke Entertains
It seems that The Dales is enjoying some culture at the moment as Tim Clarke came to entertain residents with his saxophone. He entertained us with classical favourites as well as a few modern tunes. The residents really enjoyed it and kept asking for more. Tim had them dancing, clapping and having fun - and that's what it's all about.
