Activities at Dovedale Court Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Brian Sandham
My name is Brian, I’m the activities coordinator down here at Dovedale. I’m new to the care sector, I’ve been a photographer and photography tutor since 2004 dealing with different ages groups and abilities. I’m looking forward to putting my people skills to good use down here at Dovedale.
I might be new to the care sector but I’m super looking forward to spreading a bit of extra sunshine and cheer around the home.

Life at Dovedale Court Care Home
Eddie P rocks the place
We had entertainer Eddie P come and rock the place with a show of country music, rock and roll and some modern day classics. Residents danced and sang along for the whole show. After the shoe Eddie stayed back to chat with residents and have photographs. He will certainly be here again soon.
Easter celebrations
Over the Easter weekend the staff put together a great programme of activities including Easter Bingo, Raffles, Tombola, Fish and chips served in baskets and newspaper. We finished the weekend with a Party of music and dancers and had families visit us for the event.
When the Owls come to visit.
We had a great afternoon at Dovedale court when Paul at Horus Birds of Prey brought in 2 very friendly Owls. A smaller owl called flint and the larger one called Nugget. The birds had the attention of both residents and staff from the moment they walked through the door. As each owl went round and met all the residents their handler Paul gave a great talk on the birds back grounds and habitat. The look on the residents face says it all. They were overjoyed.
Friday afternoon Parties
Our resident's love a good party. A couple of Friday’s a month we do a party for the whole of Dovedale court where it gives everyone a chance to let their hair down. We get the music is on and guaranteed in no time at all the residents are off dancing, singing and toe tapping. You can see from their smiles that they are having the best time.
Global Tea Party
Sometimes food is just the way to our soul and this was certainly true when we served up a selection of homemade Scones, trifle , treats and sandwiches fit for a king. This was all part of a global tea party in which many homes all did something similar on the same day. When you look at their faces that just says it all. A great afternoon had by all.
Snooker/pool Club
Snooker club is something brand new to us at Dovedale Court and is proving a massive hit. It’s quite unbelievable how those that played before got straight back into the game having not played for some years. The way they held the cue and concentrated on the win. We’ve also taken some that hadn’t really played the game or not at all and have been teaching them how to play. The smile on their faces when they even manage to hit the ball is priceless. Not only do we have fun playing the game but we treat as a social and have a nice little drink and a chat. We play at a local club “Ingol Labour Club” they have be great with all their help down there and it’s super appreciated.
