Activities at Drummond Grange Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Katie Nicolson
Katie Nicolson is our Head of activities here at Drummond since August 2023 beforehand she worked as an activity assistant in the home for two years. Before coming to Drummond Katie has worked in many care roles over the years and studied Psychology and Sociology at Queen Margaret’s University and was awarded a Degree of Bachelor of science in Psychology and Sociology at the start of 2022. Katie loves being part of the Activity department here at Drummond Grange and bringing new and exciting opportunities and experiences to the residents. When she’s not at work Katie is a local Girl Guide leader and youth leader for her churches youth group.

Life at Drummond Grange Care Home
Tree of Remembrance
In a heartfelt tribute to those who served in times of conflict, residents, staff, and families at Drummond Grange Care Home have come together to erect a special "Tree of Remembrance" for Remembrance Sunday. The touching display, located in the home's reception, invites everyone to write personal messages honouring fallen soldiers and veterans, creating a meaningful way to reflect and remember.
The initiative was launched earlier this week, with residents encouraged to write or dictate notes of remembrance for the tree. Each note, many of which are adorned with personal stories, thoughts of gratitude, and reflections on the sacrifices made by military personnel, is carefully attached to the tree's branches.
Some Mother's do Ave Em
Residents across our services had a fantastic time enjoying the virtual screening of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. Frank Spencer’s comical misadventures had everyone laughing and it was wonderful to see so many happy faces.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and a special thanks to The Barn Theatre in the Cotswolds for bringing this stage adaptation of the beloved sitcom to our screens.
Celebrating Onum
At Drummond Grange we have a lot of staff from the Kerala region of India. After a casual conversation between Head of Activities, Katie and a few of the carers about their upcoming Onum plans it sounded so lovely that Katie supported the carers to host our own Onum celebration here at Drummond Grange.
Katie went out and bought some colourful flowers and them a few of the carers made a lovely floral picture with the help of the residents. We them were treated to some dancing and music as well as some tasty food from Kerala.
Cornish Seal Sanctuary
A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!
Residents across our services loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well.
Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.
Fringe festival
For the second year running we welcomed Professor Goldblatt and the interfaith society into the home for another Fringe Care event. This year we were very excited to welcome the Matthew Kerr Juggling Gent into the home as well as the performers from International Productions LLP who showcased their Fringe show “the Golden Age of Musical Theatre” The residents had a fantastic time watching the show and singing along to the musical classics. We cant wait for what Professor Goldblatt and his team have in store for us next year!
Adapted sports day
Following on from a successful event last year we were all set for another successful event. However, the weather was not to kind to us and this seemed to very much dampen people’s enthusiasm for the event. Event with the weather not on our side a core group of residents and family and friends got limbered up for the competition. We split the players into two teams, Upstairs, the Rock on Tommys vs Downstrairs, The Rocket Blasters. We started with a group warm up session, seated dance along led by Activity Lead Katie before moving on to the Bean Bag toss, we managed a quick egg and spoon race before the heavens opened and we all had to run inside to the Highlander lounge. After a quick reset we set up the Highlander for the rest of the competition. Residents were challenged to a game of quoits then knots and crosses before two brave volunteers, Brian and Ian, headed out for the Javelin. After totalling up the points the winners were the Rocket Blasters, after a quick celebration everyone settled down with a nice cup of tea and homemade protein flapjack.
