Activities at Fordmill Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Julia Constandache
I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.
I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Fordmill Care Home
Fit for a Queen
On Saturday June 13th, the Queen celebrated her second, and official birthday. But there was an extra incentive to join in the festivities at Fordmill as residents were asked to design a birthday cake in honour of Her Majesty’s birthday. The winning cake design was whipped into reality by the homes’ chef to be enjoyed by residents and staff on the Queen’s special day.
Residents were also treated to a day of fun-filled royal themed activities prepared by the Fordmill team. The Queen’s birthday was marked with a small celebration at Windsor Castle, where the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are staying in isolation. Residents tuned in to watch a Royal Salute from the military, led by The Welsh Guard and massed Bands of the Household Division, which replaced the Trooping the Colour after it was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Cooling Treats
The ‘Jolly ice cream trolley’ paid a visit to Fordmill, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy some of their favourite sweet treats and refreshing ice cream on those sunny days. The colourful sweets trolley was built from an old medication trolley that had been out of use for a while, and soon attracted a queue as the sounds of the ice cream van could be heard throughout the home.
The mobile trolley is very popular at Fordmill and it's lovely to see the residents smiles as they see it rolling along.
Pizza Delivery
It was a nice surprise this morning when 9 large pizzas were delivered to Fordmill from Domino's in Montrose. Even residents tucked in!
Clapping for Carers
Staff, residents, loved ones and members of the community, including the local police, cheered on NHS staff and other key workers at Fordmill, who are helping to keep the country running during the coronavirus pandemic. Those who have recently lost a loved one, stood strong and everyone took a moment to remember as they showed their appreciation for our key workers.
Virtual Pet Therapy
Residents at Fordmill recently enjoyed a virtual visit from Rapha the pet therapy dog, who treated them to a message of humour and positivity!
Supporting the residents at the home, Rapha owner sent a message saying, "sorry I can’t come and see you at the moment, but thought I’d send you a video to cheer you all up. Hopefully I can come and see you soon. Lots of love and woofs."
The hospitality team at the home played the video to the residents and had lots of laughs in return!
Messages of Kindness
The staff at Fordmill have been overwhelmed with all the lovely messages and social media posts and kind words which are inspiring them during this worrying time for all. It’s not just staff that are receiving words of encouragement, but residents too who have been delighted to receive colourful pictures and letters delivered to the home from local children and members of the community.
