Activities at Fordmill Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Julia Constandache
I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.
I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.

Life at Fordmill Care Home
Residents get crafty
Residents from Fordmill often get together to enjoy their regular art and craft sessions which supports their creative ideas and encourages different methods of Art. Residents have been busy showing their own style of colourful designs.
This class is particularly popular with all and everyone thoroughly enjoys a get together with a cuppa and a slice of delicious cake. Residents enjoy the colouring and crafting as find it very calming and therapeutic. It enhances mindfulness and promotes a positive mental well-being.
Games afternoon
Residents at Fordmill enjoy a varied life enrichment programme to keep the mind, body and soul active. Each day there are popular group activities bringing everyone together along with individual Resident centred activities.
Residents enjoyed a fun filled afternoon of fitting the puzzle together with a giant jigsaw! High on the agenda and lots of fun is their popular game sessions.
Valentine's Day
Fordmill was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day. Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by creating heart-shaped decorations to decorate the home and gifting each other home-made sweets, cakes and treats.
General Manager, Aileen Alberts said: “It’s been a very different Valentine’s Day but we’ve all had a lovely day nonetheless. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either using our visiting suite or on a video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”
Fordmill go nuts for Squirrel Appreciation Day
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Fordmill care home got up close and personal with some furry friends when they celebrated Squirrel Appreciation Day on 21st January.
Squirrel Appreciation Day is an annual nationwide event raising awareness of the plight of the native red squirrel population, which is in sharp decline. The aim of the event is to inspire people to take action for wildlife. The cold winter months are especially tough for animals and birds; as temperatures drop and food becomes scarce, wildlife such as squirrels need a little extra help.
Residents had a brilliant time learning about red squirrels and conservation efforts to try to restore the red squirrel population, and painting squirrels in their arts and crafts session.
Christmas festivities
Barchester’s Fordmill care home have been in the festive spirit through the countdown to Christmas with a variety of activities and in-house events keeping residents social active and stimulated including a selection of virtually streamed events to the delight of all.
General Manager, Aileen Alberts said: “We’ve had a year like no other so we wanted to really spoil our residents and give them an extra special treat. We’ve all had such fun letting our hair down today, and it is clear that everyone really enjoyed the day.”
Happy tears at Christmas
Residents of Fordmill supported by the homes activities coordinator, Julia have created very special heartfelt gifts for their loved ones for Christmas. There has been lots of happy tears as relatives opened their gifts Christmas Day in the homes designated visitor suite. Everyone at Fordmill would like to wish you all a very happy, safe Christmas
