Activities at Fordmill Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Julia Constandache

Senior Activities Coordinator

I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.

I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.

Home Goes Extra Mile for Sport Relief

Staff and residents at Fordmill took part in Sport Relief 2020 to raise money to help transform the lives of people across the UK and the rest of the world in some of its poorest communities.

Despite the challenges in the outside world due to the Coronavirus crisis, everyone came together aiming to complete a 5k walking challenge, with a boost of morale Residents and colleagues completed the walk in 3-days and hope the £110.00 raised will make a difference in somebodies life, relatives still home to top this up as soon as they are able to visit.

Residents and staff were all very supportive and were there to cheer on the participants as they began their chosen challenge for Sport Relief. Everyone is proud of their achievement taking into account the challenges residents face on a daily basis and own health issues.

Aileen Alberts said: “The fundraising for this year’s Sport Relief has been a great success and such a positive boost for everyone involved. We have all had a huge amount fun whilst raising money for such a great cause. Well done to all of those who took part, we are all immensely proud of each and everyone!”

Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities watching the art of Scottish Country Dancing and the Ceilidh to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the Haggis.

General Manager, Aileen Alberts at Fordmill, thought it was a perfect occasion to celebrate an evening steeped in age-old tradition as well as getting in a spot of Scotch whisky tasting, singing with a medley of Burns’ songs/ dessert making by concocting a Tipsy Laird for afters.

Aileen said: “Our residents have enjoyed a hearty meal of Scotch broth, Haggis with neeps and tatties all prepared by our chef.
