Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

The Big Coronation Street Party

Excitement was in the air as we all celebrated the highly anticipated Coronation of King Charles in style.

Our garden was beautifully decorated with themed flags, banners and Union Jack bunting, setting the stage for a street party with grand royal lunch followed by live music entertainment.

The whole home came together, along with families, friends and local community members to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering.

Our talented catering team prepared a delicious lunch followed by an assortment of sweet and savoury treats for all to enjoy, accompanied by a glass of wine or cocktail.

We all had such a brilliant time celebrating the Coronation, such a momentous occasion.

A Trip to Stanley Park

Today residents from Glenroyd Care home enjoyed a trip out to one of Blackpool's most iconic attractions, Stanley Park. This beautiful park is renowned for its picturesque gardens, stunning boating lake, and a wide range of recreational facilities, making it a popular destination for people of all ages.

This trip out was not just a chance to enjoy the scenic beauty of the local area, but also an opportunity to spend quality time together. Many of the residents had fond memories of visiting the park when they were younger, and they were thrilled to be able to visit again.

Once we arrived at the park, the residents enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the gardens, taking in the sights and sounds of the park. The beautiful landscape was breath-taking, and the residents enjoyed admiring the stunning flora and fauna that surrounded them.

After the gentle stroll, we stopped at one of the park's ice cream stands to enjoy a delicious treat. The residents loved sampling some of the flavours on offer, enjoying the warm sunshine and the company of those around them.

With so many different features and attractions to enjoy, there really is something for everyone at Stanley Park.

The park truly represents everything that is great about Blackpool, and it was wonderful to see our residents enjoying it to the fullest.

Easter Celebrations

Today the residents at Glenroyd Care Home had a wonderful Easter celebration where they welcomed a special guest - the Easter Bunny!

This morning the Easter Bunny and his little helper hopped into our community carrying a basketful of treats and eggs. Residents were excited to see him and interact with the furry friend, who posed for pictures and gave out hugs to make the day even more special.

In the afternoon the residents enjoyed an Easter party in the garden, and they welcomed back the singer Marianne. Her voice echoed through the garden, and the residents were singing along, dancing and swaying to the rhythm.

The residents were dressed in their finest attire and even the windiest weather conditions would not stop them to share laughter, and have the most enjoyable time together.

The Easter Bunny, true to his reputation, was a beloved guest who brightened the day for everyone. We all had a wonderful time, full of joy and laughter.

Thank you to everyone who attended and to Marianne for making the Easter party a tremendous success!

Happy Easter from everyone at Glenroyd!

Gentle Exercise

Residents at Glenroyd Care Home had a wonderful time today during their gentle exercise session. The session began with a warm-up to get everyone's muscles ready for the exercises. The residents then engaged in various exercises such as chair yoga, stretches, and breathing techniques. The exercise session not only helped them loosen up their stiff muscles but also lifted their mood, improved mobility, balance, and flexibility.

The residents particularly enjoyed the stretching exercises, which helped them stretch their legs and arms while sitting on the chairs. This kind of exercise is particularly helpful for older adults who have limited mobility or have trouble standing for extended periods.

The activity was led by our friend Stefan from Fit For Good, who kept the residents motivated and engaged throughout the session. Our Residents always look forward to their gentle exercise session as it helps to keep them healthy, energised, and improves their overall sense of well-being.

We believe in promoting an active lifestyle, and gentle exercise sessions like these help achieve this goal, improving residents' physical and mental health.

We can't wait for the next exercise session!

Pets at the Palaces

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.
