Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Hello Summer

The arrival of the sunny days is no surprise to our team here at Henford House who have worked tirelessly to be 'garden ready' for our residents enjoyment this summer.

,

The hatching of our baby Chicks

Our residents and staff here at Henford House so enjoyed watching the baby chicks hatch and grow.

Vegetarian for Life

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef, Alex, whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo. Much to residents’ delight, Henford House Head Chef, Hilary Dix, had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes.

Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes, including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries, which was all finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

Sea Talk

As part of Barchester’s life enrichment programme, staff and residents at Henford House enjoyed an exciting virtual presentation, provided by SEA LIFE London Aquarium.

Everyone at the home had the opportunity to learn more about the Aquarium, which is a home to more than 300 species and 4,000 creatures and to see green sea turtles, feeding of Gentoo penguins and sharks in their 1 million litre shark tank.

The SEA LIFE London Aquarium is located on the ground floor of County Hall on the South Bank of the River Thames in central London, near the London Eye. It opened in March 1997 as the London Aquarium and hosts about one million visitors each year.

Planting Sunflowers

Henford House residents had a wonderful morning with community champions, Megan and Gina from Morrison’s, in the garden planting sun flower seeds in the sunshine!

They also provided the residents with amazing activity packs and delicious sunflower biscuits. It was a fantastic time spent with members of the community.

Hooray for Hair Salons

As a welcome back to the hair salons, residents thought it would be a lovely idea to take round a few flower arrangements they had created to celebrate their grand opening.

The salons selected were of those and known by our residents; we were welcomed by very happy stylists and smiley customers. The atmosphere was amazing and we all wish them well!
