Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure are a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat is always be welcomed.

My name is Sophie, I am the Activities Coordinator here at Herne Place Care Home. It is my duty to ensure all residents feel happy and content. I love my job because I enjoy seeing our residents smiling and having fun on a daily basis.
I enjoy getting to know all of our residents on a one-to-one basis and in a group setting. This allows me to get to know their hobbies and ambitions as individuals, and fulfil these with life enriching activities they appreciate and will benefit from.

Yamas!
Today has been an international day. The residents have been discussing Greece.
The day started by drinking Ouzo cocktails and eating olives, feta cheese and pitta bread, followed by Greek singing and dancing.

Farewell Stan
A sad day for the home, but how rewarding!
This afternoon we have had a surprise farewell party for our resident Stan, with cake, wine and all sorts of goodies
Stan has been with us for nearly 18 months. Stan has had a phenomenal life and has shared his stories with both the team and other residents and he has been a joy to have at Herne Place.
However, on Sunday, Stan will be returning home to his family after a positive and rewarding stay at Herne Place.
The Right Step
Mind, body and soul are important in all our lives, no matter what age you are.
The Right Step Dance Company, visit the home often and the the residents always have so much fun with their armchair exercises, waving the scarfs to linking the scarfs, to moving together and dancing together.
There's nothing like a pamper day
All ladies like to be pampered and our residents are no exception. And don't we all feel like a new person after being pampered.
Therefore, our carers and activities team work together to ensure our residents get a day of pampering. They will start with a nice jacuzzi spa bath, with their choice of music playing, a visit to the hair salon to see the hairdresser and finished off with a hand massage and having their nails painted.
Memory Games
It is important for us to keep our residents brains stimulated.
Therefore, this afternoons activity was a variety of memory games. One of the games played were where a number of items were placed on a tray. The residents studied the items on the tray and then had to guess which one had been removed by Chris & Heidi, our activities team.

Heidi, our new Activities Coordinator, was made to feel very welcome during a getting to know me group session.
Lots of questions were asked by the residents to Heidi to find out about here and what ideas she had instore for them.
Heidi also got to have a dancing lesson from our resident, Stan.
